Strawberry And Cream
No special requests. Homemade strawberry jam and house cream cheese filling. All atop of our tender, buttery, yeasty and homemade kolache bread. Frodo was actually referring to this strawberry treat as he reminisced with Sam about the Shire after he destroyed The One Ring. If you don't know what I'm referring to then we aren't friends. Sidenote: how did they not catch on fire?
Plain Cream Cheese - $2.75
No special requests. House cream cheese filling. That's it
Blackberry And Cream
No special requests. Homemade blackberry jam and house cream cheese filling. All atop of our tender, buttery, yeasty and homemade kolache bread. This kolache will feel much more comfortable in your hands than the phone. At least for me cause I have fat hands and those keyboards were tiny.
Peach And Cream
No special requests. Homemade peach jam and house cream cheese filling. All atop of our tender, buttery, yeasty and homemade kolache bread. I want to make a James and the Giant Peach reference but I don't want to scare the kids. That movie was WACK!
Raspberry And Cream
No special requests. Homemade raspberry jam and house cream cheese filling. All atop of our tender, buttery, yeasty and homemade kolache bread. No jokes to make. Only respect for the #1 seller on our menu.

If you haven’t had a koloche, you are missing out. The breading is so delicious and the breakfast choices are full of flavor. I personally recommend the jalapeño bacon and egg, my personal favorite! These are awesome breakfast foods/treats for friends and family. The price isn’t so bad either, but when you get 6-8 of them, it can definitely add up. Most people would rate them a 5 star joint but I quite frankly cannot. I’ve been going for years and they have made little to no effort in increasing their efficiency and convenience. There is ALWAYS a long line at this establishment. There always seem to be wait on some of the key flavors and choices. I arrived once at 6 am (30 minutes before they open) and there was already a line. When it was finally my turn in line, they told me that “they don’t serve the sweet koloches until 7:30 am.” They know how busy they get everyday, why can’t they order more machinery and get a larger facility to produce more food? As a business, they need to get their mess together.

I found out about this place from someone I follow on Instagram. I can’t remember who now. I placed my order online and they were bagged and waiting for me when I got there. I ordered the Mexican Omelette and the Mixed Berries and cream. I live 1.5 hrs away and decided to bring them home and reheat the next day. They reheated well and were absolutely amazing. The bread itself is baked perfectly. The Mexican Omelette is a roll (best way I can think to describe it) stuffed with egg, fresh avocado, chopped cilantro, diced tomato, sautéed poblanos, and tomatillos. There was plenty of stuffing and the bread isn’t overbearing. It is perfection. The sweet one, mixed berries and cream, is also fantastic. The berries and cream sit on top of the bread instead of stuffed like the savory. This is a place I will be returning to when I’m up that way. I can’t wait to try all their other Kolaches. I’m so excited to find something different in Provo.

It was 9:30am, I had about an hour before my bus came, so I decided to walk along downtown Provo and see where was open to grab some food. As I walked, I suddenly came across a long line of people outside this little corner shop. I didn't ask questions, i just got in line: always eat where the locals eat. Once I got in there, I was hit with a wonderful smell and the sight of several bakers staying busy. I ordered what sounded good, and was out in minutes. It was so great! The sweet kolaches are filled with fruit spread and what I assumed was cream cheese, but the texture is more like custard. I also got a sausage and gravy kolache, which was peppery and homey and so so good. The busyness meant that they all came out fresh too, but even when I had the cilantro chicken one later, it was still delicious and very filling. In conclusion, this is a lot of good food in a small package. Just get in line!

Hruska's Kolaches is a hidden gem in Provo! I walked passed it several times and didn't notice it at first. Luckily someone recommended it and I gave it a try.

Here's the thing. They are only open limited hours and they only make so many so get there early. You can usually go first thing in the morning without much of a wait, but just know Saturdays are crazy! Get there early if you want the best selection.

They offer sweet and savory Kolaches. The sweet ones are tasty, but the savory ones are my absolute favorite. They are super filling and it's like getting a whole meal in a convenient, portable bun of goodness. I have tried every savory flavor and they are all good in their own way. However, if you want to knock your socks off, try the pulled pork and the La Bomba Carnitas (the carnitas are only offered on Saturdays). They are AMAZING! They sell out fast, so get their early. I also love sausage gravy one and the egg, cheese, and ham.

The sweet Kolaches are delightful, too. I enjoy the Nutella one as well as the maple pecan (that's my usual go-to). Their annual Harry Potter event is super fun and the sweet Unicorn blood Kolache is the bomb.

One thing I think they could work on:

The staff can some times come off a little cold and not super welcoming, so they could work on that. They are a little local place, so I'd love for it to feel more homey and welcoming like what you'd expect from a local family-owned place. (Greeting you when you come in, saying thank you for visiting, offering recommendations on your first visit, smiling when you enter the restaurant, etc.)

I live about 30 minutes from this place and it would be super nice to order and pay ahead on the phone before coming in. It's quite a drive and then waiting in line a long time can be a drag. Luckily the food is worth it, but it's a service that would be really nice. I do like that they offer special orders. If you place an order of 12 or more, you can order and pay for them the night before and then pick them up the next morning. However, if you don't plan in advance, they will not let you order and pay for them over the phone.

All-in-all, the food makes up for the minor customer service issues. You will not be disappointed in the quality and flavor of the Kolaches. This is a...

Before I jump in, their sweet kolaches options are fantastic! I give those 5 stars and will happily eat them anytime and anywhere. Go try them out!

My two star rating comes with a 3 pronged reason:

  1. The most important, I’ve stopped eating their savory kolaches because on multiple occasions I’ve gotten ones that had what seemed to be not fully cooked sausage and chicken. They didn’t break down when chewing, they had a bad flavor, and they made me gag a little. The ones I’ve had that were cooked were excellent (of which have been their Sausage, Egg & Cheese; Ham, Egg, & Cheese; Chicken Cilantro Omelet; and the Sausage and Gravy). But now I have this cautionary warning go off in my head that says this may or may not be a good decision.

  2. The wait to order always seems to be a 30+ minute ordeal. Probably because of the size of the location. An upgrade would be nice to accommodate a better in and out flow.

  3. I’ve purchased some large orders only to find out after that I’m either missing some items or didn’t get the right items. Again I think this often has to do with the size of the location. Customers have to jostle each other to get in and out and it seems the employees have to do to the same as they seek to fill the...

My partner and I have loved these Kolashes for years and they were even a part of our weekly routine where I would take them to her job for breakfast on my day off, unfortunately they seem to have taken quite a dip in quality the past few months. About a month or two ago we found a hair in our first of four kolashes and were so grossed out we had to toss them all. We took a break for a little while until we could build up the courage to go back yesterday and give them another shot. This time excitedly we both bit down and discovered huge chunks of egg shells baked into the kolaches. We have sadly come to the conclusion that we’re just done. You don’t get three strikes when it comes to food. I hope eventually they find can find and hold on to good employees that know how to handle food safely. Even before I wrote this review I checked the recent reviews left here and it seems others have been having similar experiences lately. it would be really sad if another local business here was lost for good, I genuinely wish...
