This review only pertains to the Puyallup, WA location. I do intend to visit some of the other locations to do some comparison in the future. The date of the visit was June 28, 2022, and it was around 3:15 p.m. Decided to visit because I discovered it not too long ago, and had a good dining experience while in Houston, TX with the same chain earlier this year. The location is in the south Puyallup area, on the west side of the usually very busy Meridian street.
The exterior of the place has a rustic western decor, adding a bit of atmosphere to the BBQ served in the location. There is ample parking available. Entering the front door (facing east), you step into a not very well lit large dining room. Ordering and kitchen is located across from the entrance with the menu mounted on the top of the wall just behind the kitchen. I wished I experienced the BBQ smell immediately upon entry like I did in Houston, but that was missing here. There were 2 servers behind the kitchen, one of them appeared to be a trainee. Both were nice answering some questionsI had. To the side of the dining room, there is a self-service drink dispenser serving mostly Coke products. Beside that, there are three self-service BBQ sauce pots (Regular, sweet & spicy.), and small plastic sauce cups in a plastic basket for you to dish out as much as you want.
I used the App to place my order. Had some minor issues with it, but that was resolved and everything went smoothly afterwards. My order consisted of 2 pulled pork Tuesday specials and I added the Jalapeno BBQ beans side. The order was to-go since I had to meet up with my daughter after work to return home. I would have eaten there if time permitted since BBQs normally do not hold up well when cold. Back home an hour later, it took a little time microwaving and that’s it. (Pulled pork does not suffer much taste deterioration after microwaving that BBQ beef suffers in my opinion.) Taste-wise, the pulled pork was very good and I have no problem ordering it again and again. The highlight, however, is the spicy BBQ sauce, which stood out for me in Houston, and remains so with this location. It is one of those sauces that will enhance any dish anytime anywhere. It has the right bite, and is not too sweet. (BJ’s restaurant offers a Peppered BBQ sauce that has similar enhancing characteristics, though not as spicy.) The Jalapeno BBQ beans were a disappointment however, and did not stand out especially with the steep pricing.
Pricing-wise, BBQ places are usually on the higher end, and Dickey’s is no exception. The chain does offer daily specials except for Sundays which minimizes the penalty. Supposedly there’s a kids eat free Sunday offering, but I have little desire to be crowded in and eating with a bunch of noisy kids.
Rating-wise, I give this place 4 stars. It will be adjusted after re-visits to experience other offerings. I highly recommend you come by during a day when plated specials are offered, so you can experience the sides with the main meat(s) for a better value and a more thorough exposure. Oh, please download the app, order ahead to avoid possible long waiting times, get bonus points and enjoy some free food/drink in the future. For now, you get 2X points during the 3-5 p.m. Happy Hour all week...

Read moreWe enjoy the food, it's good for the convenience- almost subway style when you walk in to order, it's all ready and I'm assuming in steam tables. With that said, order when you get there. Ordering online has been nothing but a disappointment. Missing and wrong food. Last night didn't recieve ANY bbq sauce! Called and was told it's by request... guess checking the box on which you want when you order isn't enough. Had to use kraft bbq, as that's all I had 🙃 also didn't receive the desserts I ordered. Still waiting for a call back on refund.... Food for 2 adults, 2 teens and 2 kids was $90 to get no bbq sauce, just meat and sides. Online ordering also mandates a tip amount, and as a waitress I always tip cash, perhaps the $1 in the mandatory tip line is what is causing this food mess up (payback?) Wish I had known, would have kept my $20 cash tip. Started to check the bag at pickup and the girl yelled out "I doubt checked, your all good" WHERE WAS MY BBQ SAUCE THEN?! Annoying. Probably will eat here again, and save the trouble and order in. Large amount of food wasn't ate, total waste of money- if I wanted kraft bbq I would have made a roast...
