Niveaux is a new French/Asian artisan patisserie that had just opened up in North Quincy (inside of Yocha). I had stopped by in the early morning and got to try out a variety of their croissants/cakes/pastries and they were all delicious! I love that they have a lot of new trendy Asian inspired flavors like Ube, Yuzu, Kalamansi, and Black Sesame which i'm a huge fan of. I also read that the main pasty chef here had been on a couple different food network shows in the past which is pretty cool.
If there's one item that i think you must absolutely get here, it is their "Ube Egg" cake. The combination of the ube mousse, matcha sponge cake, and blackberry gelatin was AMAZING and literally heaven in every single bite!
I also found the Yuzu and Ube filled croissants very tasty. They use French imported butter and you can taste the difference (their croissants have a fuller, richer, and deeper buttery profile to them). I did however wish that the croissants had a bit more crackle to them but they were still wonderfully laminated and flaky nevertheless. The fillings were on the thinner side compared to Lakon but i personally prefer the fillings here a lot more! I thought the fillings were done so well that i think they can even explore making some new menu items with them (e.g some sort of Ube cream filled muffin similar to the cream style filled muffins that Gingerbread Construction in Winchester is known for).
Looking forward to come back so that i can try out some of the other potential...
Read moreI've been seeing this place on social media a lot and finally was able to visit today. It was easy to find and the parking around Quincy is always troublesome. The wait time was not long and we went there around 12 pm on Saturday. They had most of the fancy desserts and croissants there. I got mango mouse, ube egg, martini espresso mouse, berry cheesecake and berry and mango tart. I'd rank mango mouse at the top. It was really balanced and nice mango flavor. Ube egg was my second favorite and I felt the flavors came together nicely. Martini espresso was not bad but I didn't like the layers as much. I think regular sponge would have done better. It had sort of moist and sticky layer and I was not a fan of that. Our least favorite was the tart and the cheesecake. The tart had too much crust not enough filling and the mango mouse was almost flavorless. I don't think the flavors worked together. The atmosphere was nice. We were able to get seatings when we arrived but afterwards it got a little busy. The tables had live flowers and I think that was nice touch. All in all, I was happy with the experience. I had to subtract one star because when I was leaving I noticed a fly on one of the desserts which made me feel yucky. The drinks there was not bad. The coffee was good and ube latte was ok. I think I would like to come here to try some seasonal flavors but I would be very picky next time. Hope they would work on the fly situation more diligently...
Read moreI got there around 10am on Sunday, so I'd say it's still pretty early for things to be freshly baked. Unfortunately to my major disappointment nothing was worth the dollar amount attached to the pastry. I ordered a plain croissant so I can see how authentic they were to the delicious flaky pastry. I don't even know.... I guess if you like under done croissants and if that's their style you'd like that place but it's definitely not what most people are used too, the well done flakey buttery treat. It was so doughy I couldn't pull it apart without ripping the entire inside out of it. It also didn't taste fresh at all. The espresso martini, tasted nothing like coffee more like chocolate mousse. The jello- like center was just odd and made the whole dessert texture terrible. There was absolutely no taste to it so I honestly have no idea why it's even there. The mango only tastes like mango due to the pure block in the center. The cake itself had no taste at all. The pistachio had the weirdest "pistachio" like taste to it. I was very disappointed, will not go back and I guess if you enjoy fake french pastries that look pretty,...
