My husband and I went to eat breakfast at Big Ed's on 8/6 with some biker friends of ours. We went inside and proceeded to the take out counter. We waited in line until we got to the counter. Once we got to the counter the women did not greet us and proceeded to ask how many people? So my husband explained that the two of us were together and that the other members in our party were separate. She proceeded to say with an attitude "I can count people. That's not what I asked." So myhusband proceeded to try to explain again, she still had an attitude and ignore him. He didn't pay it any attention and proceeded to give her our order. She then stated to my husband " I don't appreciate your tone." My husband trying not to make a scene. Calmly placed his order. Upon leaving to go outside and wait for our order. Upon leaving we spoke to the two hostess at the front. How deeply empathic and apologized for her rude behavior. They also stated they would let the owner know. Now my husband and I are an interracial couple and this by far put a bad taste in our mouth. Even though the food was fantastic, the women at the takeout counter apparently has deep issues she needs to address. On top of no one in our party not leaving her a tip, we will not be coming back.

Update: After speaking to the owner several weeks ago. My husband and I have decided not to come back to this establishment. Making excuses for how rude your employee was due to the fact she has an issue with interracial couples, is truly sad. If someone still feels that way in 2022, maybe she needs to seek some soul searching. If you work in the field of customer service you need to take your personal views out of the equation and serve...

My first time at Big Ed’s! This is probably one of Raleigh’s most spoke about country style restaurants. I’ve been putting it off because I am not a huge southern food fan. I finally decided to try it out today & I must say it was pretty delicious.

Rustic, old time feel. With collections of random items hung up everywhere. Definitely the vibes of grandmas house, grandpas shed scenery.

Here’s my walk thru.... I enter the building & I guess you could say “greeted” by their hostess Mary. Very rude & not inviting at all. I ask her for a table for 2 because my friend was right behind me parking her car. She told me we could not have a table until both in the building so we basically got pushed to the back of waiting list. Really rubbed me the wrong way on top of her already being unpleasant in the first place. So I will say my experience here started pretty rocky. My friend however vouched that this place was worth it. After a 10min wait we are sat & served by a waitress named LeeAnn. PHENOMENAL person! She made up for entire being portion of my visit. She was on top of everything. I let her decide my whole meal & it was great.

I had the fried chicken with honey & hot sauce, baked apples, & the biggest damn pancake I’ve ever seen in my life! So so good. Will definitely return & hopefully greeted in a different manner the next time. Would’ve been 5 stars if they didn’t start your experience with the first person you see, being someone who clearly doesn’t like their job.

Big Ed's is a chain of Southern restaurants in North Carolina. They serve a variety of comfort food, such as fried chicken, biscuits and gravy, and country ham.

I visited the Big Ed's City Market Restaurant in Raleigh, NC. The restaurant is located in a historic building in the heart of downtown Raleigh. The interior is decorated with funky antiques, giving it a laid-back and cozy atmosphere.

I ordered the Southern breakfast plate, which comes with two eggs, grits, bacon, sausage, and biscuits. The food was delicious and the portions were generous. The biscuits were especially good, they were light and fluffy and perfectly cooked.

The service at Big Ed's was friendly and attentive. The waiter was happy to answer my questions about the menu and make recommendations.

Overall, I had a great experience at Big Ed's. The food was delicious, the service was good, and the atmosphere was inviting. I would definitely recommend Big Ed's to anyone looking for a good Southern meal.

Here are some of the pros and cons of Big Ed's:

Pros:

Delicious food Generous portions Friendly service Casual atmosphere Affordable prices Cons:

Some locations can be crowded Wait times can be long during peak hours Limited vegetarian options Overall, I would give Big Ed's a 4 out of 5 stars. It is a great option for a casual meal with friends or family.

Here are some tips for getting the best experience at Big Ed's:

Go during off-peak hours to avoid long wait times. Order the Southern breakfast plate! It is delicious and the portions are generous. Don't forget to try the biscuits! They are light and fluffy and...
