Since arriving to the Triangle Region recently, I've made it a mission to try a new restaurant once or twice a month. Since Flying Saucer had great reviews on Google, it was next on the list. This location is in downtown Raleigh and was visited on a quiet Tuesday evening at about 10 pm. It is one of the few eateries in town that are open past midnight (1:00 am) during weekdays. It was a very mild spring evening so we requested seating on the expansive patio area. This area directly abuts the street and sidewalk so there is quite a bit of activity. Dog lovers will appreciate that this section is pet friendly with plenty of water bowls for Fido. Our server was very knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive and we received out orders promptly. The nacho plate was fabulous and one of the best I've enjoyed. The ingredients were notably fresh and good quality. I didn't ask but I am pretty sure the sauces and dressings were made on-site. Up to here, it would have been an easy 5 star experience but for what occurred shortly after... Apparently this was Trivia Nite and that was fine but the topics were all s*xually related. The host used foul language and made crude references to kinky s*x acts. They were also showing images on the flat screens that I thought were highly inappropriate (diagrams of sex acts/genitalia, etc.). I almost lost my appetite at one point. It's unfortunate that this spoiled an otherwise pleasant experience. But for our wonderful server, the rating would have been even lower. I would hope that management would reconsider how they run game night or at list give diners notice of potentially offensive content.

Yeah, yeah. It’s a chain with a decent reputation, but they seriously had me at the Turkey Meltdown with hot German Potato salad. Incredible and very attentive staff who were totally on top of our very large group. Come for the beer, but stay for the service, food and libations. An Addendum: So, I’m not a beer drinker at all, but on my final night in town, I really just wanted a bit to eat and a few drinks. So, on shift was “beer-tender” Jack. The man was generous, affable as well as a fount of beer knowledge. As I sat and got a verbal history lesson of beers that I might like, I also got ample amounts of samples that were very much to my liking. So, the next time you drop in, see if Jack is working. I promise he’ll find you something to soothe your pallet. And tell him the guy from Jersey Boys says hello!

Ok so the staffs great, the beer selection is great, they're dog friendly, and I've had some good food here before but... I got the French dip, which they call the "Big Dipper", and it literally had 2 slices of roast beef in it. Like...that's insane, a regular French dip should be packed with meat, but one that boldly calls itself the Big Dipper? I thought when I ordered this $16 sandwich I wasn't gonna leave hungry, but I genuinely considered ordering another just so I could combine the two to make one ACTUAL sandwich. I've had other food here that was good and had decent portions, but that's beyond disappointing. Do yourself a favor and get something else, bc this was not worth it, and get the potato salad instead of the fries unless you like wholly unseasoned fries.

Just wanted to say that our waitress was really nice and empathetic to us during a recent situation that happened this past weekend. However, she informed us of a new policy that her manager had recently begun to enforce which was that anyone under 21 without a parent or legal guardian could not eat there at all to cut down on underage drinking. There was no sign stating this rule to be found anywhere on the premises, which caused 2 members of our party who arrived first, and had even already ordered their food and drink, to think it would be ok to eat here as they were uninformed about this policy. Had we known about this policy beforehand, we would have chosen elsewhere as one member of our party (myself) was under 21 at 20 years old just 4 months away from turning 21. Our waitress went to go inform her manager of our problem as I had voluntarily told her my age and that I just wanted some food and water to go along with it. The manager came out and very rudely told us that there was no wiggle room on this policy and that either I would have to leave alone, or the whole party would be forced to leave as well. When asked if there was any sign put up to let guests know about this policy the manager told us that there in fact was a sign on the other backdoor of the outdoor patio...We checked for this sign only to find out that we were blatantly lied to as a cover up! What great management!! What's really funny was the fact that even if there was a sign about this rule, that it would have been on the farthest door down away from the entrance in the outside dining area like that would make sense! After this lie the manager was very rude and just walked away from the situation while we were still talking to her trying to find a solution. It's a real shame as we'd been here before a few months back, loved it and never had any problems. Sadly, we will now never return after...

Huge selection of beers, and the atmosphere was great! I would have given it 5 stars if there was:

A description of each of the beers' location, flavour, IBUs, or even the ABV. I liked that there is a HUGE selection, but personally I love the story a beer has to tell, and I felt that by leaving out the information, it did the breweries an injustice. Just my opinion! But the selection was incredible, so I understand there would be a lot more space required on the menu.

The pricing of the flight was a bit steep for me, but hey, that clearly didn't turn me off. The beer was excellent, and the waitress was very upfront about the cost being worth it for the flavour and unique brews.

This was my first time, so I'm definitely going to come back at least 2-3 more times. I'll update the post as I go.

Some upsides of the establishment:

HUGE selection of beer to choose from, and the menu was catered towards that. There were varieties of flavours, beers, origins, flights, etc. So I definitely liked that.

I don't know the waitress' names, but the two women who helped my girlfriend and I were very kind and knowledgable about the menu and its offerings. They were very busy, but managed to stay cool, calm, and consistent with everything. Brought waters to the table (took a bit, but hey, I understand it is ! HARD job).

The atmosphere. There were tons of saucers and plates from different locations, from different people, dedications, etc. all over the walls and ceiling! It was really unique, and added to the vibe. Seating was readily available for my girlfriend and I even with the social distancing guidelines put in place.

BIKE RACKS.. this was HUGE! I did not expect to see parking for bicycles, but gosh darn it there were some on the side of the building. That's a plus for me.

Thank you for the wonderful experience. I cannot wait...
