After just over a year at the Hue I am happy to finally be done with the place. The apartment complex is really conveniently located (many great bars & restaurants near by) which is why I gave them a one star rating. Most everything Lori and her minions at the leasing office do is structured to nickel & dime their residents. If you do choose to lease at The Hue I would make sure to study the lease VERY carefully & cover yourself every step of the way.
They will require you to sign a walk through form stating the apartment is in perfect condition prior to moving in. I would recommend not signing anything until you've carefully inspected the apartment and noted every minute imperfection in the unit (I also recommend making a personal copy of the "move-in checklist" and taking pictures of these pre existing imperfections to cover yourself).
Also, in my opinion, their lease renewal system is designed to trap outgoing tenants into extended leases at significantly higher monthly rates. I received a letter on my door & a phone call from the leasing office recommending I swing by the leasing office to discuss my future plans with Lori, the leasing manager (I informed them over the phone that I would not be renewing my lease, and their was no mention of the 60 day "move out" deadline). When I stopped by the leasing office a couple days later I was informed by Ms Lori that the 60 day deadline had passed and I would be required to extend my lease at a higher rate (when I protested she looked at me with a smirk on her face and sarcastically asked "well didn't you read your lease?"). Then the leasing office hit me with another fee because my renters insurance was for only the initial lease term & did not cover the extended lease term they required.
In addition to this, MAAConnect is a bit of a scam (they've "partnered" with Time Warner on this one to rip you off); the hallways constantly smelled like urine; my AC must have stopped working about 5 or 6 times while I was renting there; they only have one trash chute (it was about 300 yards away from my particular unit); and all building tenants are treated to a constant flow of nagging emails from the leasing office. Read moreMoving in and of itself is stressful but to top it all off, my car broke down just as i had dropped off the U-Haul van with my dog in my car. I had to pay for a new alternator after just paying the deposit for the Hue. Then my first night there, my dog got out of his cage and had jumped up on the front door so much that he locked the privacy lock, to which there is no key entry to, and I ended up having to sleep in my car, lol. Needless to say, I was having a rough week. I called the office the next day and Jordan responded back quickly and told me he would have the maintenance crew get to it as soon as possible. Jordan kept me updated throughout the day as trying to get the door unlocked without a key entry is quite a challenge. I was worrying all day about what they would have to do to the door and how much it would cost me when I had only been there 2 days. Jordan called me around 1 PM that day and told me that he had called around to different property managers trying to get advice on what to do. After they had all told him that the only recourse was to cut a chuck out of the door, he took it upon himself to research different options to spare the door and my wallet. He was very excited to tell me that he had found a way that only involved drilling a small hole in the door to access the lock and unlock it with a screw driver. When they were able to unlock the door, Paolo was nice enough to take my dog outside to go to the bathroom. So sweet! Jordan never made it seem like this was a hassle and was actually excited that he was able to find a solution. They didn't even charge me for the work or the small hole in the door. After the week I had, this turned it all around for me. I had only been moved in for 2 days and the Hue team had already proved to be the best management team I've ever had. Armando and Jordan remember my name and say "Hi Amanda" when I pass them in the lobby everyday. The location is perfect and the apartment is more than spacious, but the team really makes me feel like I'm not just another...
Read moreDO NOT live here. If I could give the Hue ZERO stars I would. I've lived here for three years. The Hue has been doing major construction since August 2024 on the first floor of the building. Residents have not been able to use any of the amenities but are STILL charged a community fee every month.
In addition to the construction, the Hue has been painting the hallway walls and doors of each apartment but fail to give adequate notice to tenants when apartments need to be accessed for renovations. The doors had to be opened in order for the doors to be painted, and I was left confused and frustrated when I received two emails that were both wrong concerning the day and time that my door would be opened, sanded down, and painted. This is a problem because I have a pet that needs to be secured. When I asked the leasing office to clarify what day and time they would enter my apartment, I was told just to check my email again even though I told the leasing office that their emails listed the wrong dates. The leasing office said that they would follow up with me, but never did and I had to follow up again. That is not the first the leasing office has failed to adequately communicate.
Throughout the entire construction process the fire alarms randomly go off and Hue contractors have frequently been entering my apartment for various reasons. I feel like a guest in someone else's home and I feel that the Hue truly does not care about resident feedback or satisfaction. It just feels like a corporation that wants to renovate the building and jack up rent prices.
There are also several doors to the parking deck that are supposed to lock but have been broken for awhile and the Hue does not fix them. Such great security.
Bottom line: If you're looking for somewhere to live in downtown Raleigh,...
