I work very close to this location and was there the day it opened…Ive been to almost all the restaurants and food halls downtown and I’ve been holding off on writing a review for this place in the hope that they were fine tuning their recipes.
Well today is the day and honestly the five star reviews are lies. The pizza, which is all I order, is meh at best. Today I got the $15.55 two slice lunch special, one sausage the other pepperoni…the dough is floppy for an thin crust and you can see in the pictures the pizza is premade with the topping tossed on. The sausage taste “chemically” while the pepperoni is nice. I work less than a minute drive down the street, but the pizza is cold by the time I get there. They just warm the slices up to curl the toppings…which is hardly acceptable for the price.
Now I know pizza by the slice is premade but for the same price you can get a freshly made Calzone or Stromboli. Don’t call it a special if it’s not.
The lunch two slice special is pure robbery and disrespectful to your lunch customers. It’s probably why there are hardly any customers there at lunch time. The people who work in the area have so many good, affordable options to choose from. ..charging $15 for two premade slices is a joke for $1 worth of ingredients and $1 of someone’s time.
The cashier is extremely polite, the shop is clean and accessible. High points for presentation, low points for the pizza and affordability. Shame on them for charging an outlandish price for two slices of premade pizza. Offer a suitable deal at lunch for locals and I promise your lunch business will pick up.
Look at La Santa for an affordability reference as they have a steady stream of customers at lunch time…and the specials are actually priced as specials. The lunch chimichangas filling and fresh.
I’ll give you another example of the pricing…they charge $23 for a bowl of spaghetti, Gravy on Hargett charges $17. The Glenwood markup is not 10000% over ingredient and labor cost. I really think their business plan is to rob you once and not worry about you...
Read moreVic's Pizzeria in downtown Raleigh, located on the bustling Glenwood Avenue, impresses with its fresh, contemporary setting marked by high ceilings and vibrant artwork. As you step into this inviting space, the gleam of copper piping adds a unique touch to the well-organized kitchen area. Parking is conveniently available across the street.
The ordering process is straightforward at the counter, where the staff showcases their impressive pizza lineup. I opted for the two-slice special with bacon and pepperoni. The bacon was exceptional—so generously piled on that it tumbled off the slices, while the pepperoni was equally satisfying, both rich in flavor and perfectly cooked.

Read moreAtmosphere in NY style pizzeria is an interesting question. Lol. Okay, so onto the review. Firstly, for those who know downtown-ish Raleigh, this place is in a block lengthed extension of Glenwood that is south of Hillsborough, and just before you hit Morgan Street. I’ve driven by here a hundred times, and never noticed it. So don’t get confused by the maps, like your truly.
The young lady taking orders and packing them up was great. Smiley, friendly, helpful, deliberate and on it. Thoughtful and deliberate about how she packed the hot and cold food. If you’re gonna tip for service in a takeout order, this is the gal who makes it easy to accept.
The food was pretty good. The Caprese has decent tomatoes, nice sweet peppers and okay mozzarella and drizzle. The chicken wings were well cooked with crispy exterior, but I do wish they’d serve the sauce on the side or drizzling over when one is ready to eat. The Pizza was pretty good. It did need to folded, as it didn’t quite not get a little droopy, but it held up pretty well. I think I’ll try a couple of other contenders before I head back, but this place is convenient and, as I noted, we’ll run, so will very...
