Greek City Ramsey in a Kohls strip mall off the highway. the food is good, portions ok but a bit pricey. The deco is a bit dark, cold and relatively uninviting. The place is not big with tables literally jammed on top of each other. The wait staff is average, bus help is friendly. We almost always connect with people where ever we go but not here. The owner barely acknowledges your presence. We have been there four times in the past month (twice when it was empty) We decided to give them one more chance tonight to redeem themselves. Tonight, we ordered appetizer specials for 2 which made the bill come to $90. not including the grilled sardines, we sent back. They were literally inedible, all skin and bone (no fish). The spanakopita was warm on the outside cold inside. After the meal was in delivered in a timely way, (sardines last), we didn’t see the waitress nearby at all. Older with blonde hair, and we think she was the owner’s wife. Later when she finally arrived to see if we were done, we explained our fish-issue. She began telling us that this is the way Greeks do it. My hubby explained a few times with patience that there was no fish to eat nor did we want them. After another few more demeaning sentences from her, “bla bla bla” she proceeded to come along side my husband pick-up his fork & knife and started cutting one open as she explained we were "cutting them open wrong". At this point his patience had worn saying once again “you don’t understand we don’t want them.” She finally brought the check with yet another comment of how they did the sardines right. In retaliation the skewers of cubed lamb meat (not on menu) with pieces much smaller than usual ended up costing us $40. We always tip well, including tonight. For the longest time this place was always empty day or night. Not sure if there are new owners, they redecorated, or this kind of food has become more popular. There is too much good competition for Mediterranean food, so the owners must know customer appreciation is key. We used to go to Krichian's Paterson but stopped for the same reason. We are partially Arabic and know this kind of food when it’s good. We highly recommend
Ordered my food over the phone. It was a simple order, two plates, one gyro and one chicken dish. The place was not busy whatsoever, however, there were a few take-out orders before me... Okay, so put simply, the wife and I ordered over the phone. We were told the food would bs ready in 15-20 minutes, which was fine. And you would think an order like this would be simple for a greek place, right? Wrong! I arrived and told the older gentleman at the register my name to pick up my order. I should have know there was a problem right then and there becauae he looked lost
A series of other orders were taken care of before me. But not mine. Nope, I stood up after sittinf for so long and aporoached the older man behind the counter. He was obviously overwhelmed and lost! The old man asked my name three times. Asked me about my order, to which I went outside to inform my wife of the delay. I come back to the man saying "There was a problem with your order." He didnt apologize for my long wait time. He was in over his head at best, and mind you, I was there.....the place WAS NOT BUSY.
I can't say if the food is good or not because I never got it (after nearly 40 minutes of wait time) Eventually, I left and told the old, inept man to keep the food. He just said "Okay, thank you."
Oh, and by the way, on my way out, someone elae came in. I was there when he took his order home 30 minutes prior to this Turns out the order was wrong.
It was obvious by the wah old grayhaired man spoke with me at the register that he doesn't care about future business.
No worries, I won't be back! PS: cursing at people in Greek isn't smart when other people understand Greek...
Read moreFirst time here. When we arrived we were seated immediately. They were busy. They put small plates with toasted pita wedges and kalamata olives down while we read the menu.
We both ordered gyro platters. There were lemon potato wedges that were perfectly cooked and seasoned. There was a salad, lettuce and beautiful tomatoes, that had a delicious dressing on it. I wasn't expecting it to be dressed, and it was bright and acidic and refreshing, which worked really well with the gyro meat. The meat was very tasty and slightly greasy, but in a good way. Sometimes you get gyro meat platters and the meat is too dry. There was ample tzatziki sauce that had the perfect consistency and was very tasty. And of course the triangular wedges of pitas toasted perfectly. We did not have to ask for extra pita.
The only problem I had, and this is a very minor problem, is that the lettuce is shredded. It's kind of hard to grab shredded lettuce with a fork. I wanted to take a big bite of it, but I had to twirl the lettuce like pasta. Great on a sandwich, not great on a platter.
We shared a slice of chocolate cake, which was moist and delicious. We also shared a slice of baklava, which was everything baklava is supposed to be.
The service was excellent. There was always somebody checking to make sure we had everything we needed.
I very much...
