Went here mid day to get a quick bite and tea. Had the Roobis Chai Latte, peanut butter banana toast, and "seasonal special" scone.
The Roobis Chai Latte started off good, with nicely frothed topping right at the brim of the cup and a streak of aromatic spices down the center. You pick it up yourself at the counter as soon as it's made, so it was totally piping hot (if you are paying attention). But that's where it stopped for me, unfortunately. The actual flavor experience was a total let down. It tasted like a tiny bit of tea was just washed out with a gallon of milk, so it just tasted like milk more than anything else and was pretty sad. I was hoping for a Chai flavor bomb (as in tea actually stepped in milk, then the milk-tea is frothed), but what I got was just tea with lots of frothed milk poured into it...
The peanut butter toast was just OK: seemed like big-box seeded loaf bread, toasted, with peanut butter and very thin slices of banana, but then totally smothered in honey. Wish they would have put the honey on the side, folks may not want it so drenched (I didn't). Didn't feel particularly memorable or worth the price.
Side note, the table we sat at had a wobbly bottom, so when I cut into the toast, my latte wobbled violently and soaked everything on our table... not the toast's fault, but be warned if you have your computer or tablet out...
As for the "seasonal special" scone, whatever it was was absolutely terrible... First, I asked what the "seasonal special" scone was when ordering, and the cashier didn't know. That's not good, guys... But I was like, fine, surprise scone, I'm game. But when I took a bite out of it, it was the saltiest thing I had ever put in my mouth. Disastrously salty... There was some sort of... salt-glaze on the bottom of the scone? No idea what was going on with this scone. Who knows what the flavor was supposed to be - I couldn't finish it, it was gross (sorry, but it was).
As for the space itself, inside was roomy and open, (wobbly) table was spacious, no problem finding a seat or using the restroom.
All in all, not feeling inspired to go back - 3...
Read moreI waited 35 minutes for my latte after ordering. Thirty-five minutes! I mean, come on, not only did it take an eternity, but every other customer who ordered after me got their drinks before me. When I asked what was up, the barista shrugged her shoulders and said, "No idea." No idea?! I was seriously pissed off at that point, so I demanded a refund for my latte. She gave me the refund, but without so much as a "Sorry for the inconvenience" or any kind of apologetic gesture. Then she makes my latte in a to-go cup, even though I specifically ordered it for in-store consumption. Nice touch.
And let's not forget, this isn't just me piling on. The drink was tasteless, and the croissant was drier than a popcorn fart. These weren't worth a 5-minute wait, let alone 35 minutes.
My boyfriend, who had been waiting alongside me, posted a review about the slow service and tasteless drink. And what do you know, the owner, Greg, replied accusing us of yelling at the barista and making her cry. Cry? Give me a break. She was rude, unapologetic, and completely indifferent to my concerns. Tearful? Not a chance.
Greg, don't worry, we won't be coming back. For those who actually want quality coffee and pastries, head a few blocks down to Mademoiselle Colette. Delicious.
P.S. I have a sneaking suspicion this whole debacle was because I didn't leave a tip at the register. Here's my rule: if I'm standing when I order, I usually don't tip. How about you pay your employees a decent wage? I have no problem paying a higher price. And what the hell am I tipping for anyway? For you to swivel the register around so I can tap my...
Read moreGreat coffee shop and coffee roaster located in downtown Redwood city serving a variety of snacks, coffee drinks, and roasted coffee. Definitely recommended to visit for a while or just to pick up roasted fresh coffee.
[The Store] The shop here is beautifully designed and impeccably clean. We loved the artwork, layout of the building, and the outside appearance. They have plenty of places to sit both inside and outside on the street. If you're looking to just spend an afternoon working or reading and people watching, this is a great spot.
[The Coffee] We came here to buy some freshly roasted coffee and we were not disappointed. The coffee was roasted only 3 days ago. They have a variety of different beans from different areas including Colombia, Africa, and others. We tried the coffee this morning and it was excellent! Expect to pay around 18 dollars for a bag of coffee.
[The Service] Excellent service here. The gentlemen that served us was super knowledgable, friendly, and attentive! We didn't wait in line and we had no complaints. Just a...
