Potbelly — Restaurant in Richardson

Terribly disappointing – it was the blandest sandwich I’ve ever eaten, and this includes those refrigerated turkey and cheese things that you can get from the gas station on a road trip. We ordered DoorDash delivery, which was fine, and we had no issues with anything missing or wrong. The problem is the sandwich itself.

I ordered the Steakhouse Beef on white. The description reads “Angus roast beef, crumbled blue cheese, provolone, horseradish aioli” I added lettuce, tomato, onion, mayo and additional horseradish aioli. When I got the sandwich, it looked fine, though because of the way the sandwich is built it’s difficult to get all of the ingredients together in one bite unless you can unhinge your jaw like a snake. Most often I’d get a bite of toppings & bread OR meat and bread, but rarely both together.

The sandwich itself tasted like… bread and blue cheese – that’s it. I took out a piece of the roast beef to tasted it by itself and if I had been in a blind taste-test I would not have been able to tell you what type of meat it was. Completely tasteless. If there was any mayo or horseradish aioli on the sandwich it was lost in a sea of equally bland toppings. Again, I ate a tomato by itself away from the sandwich and it tasted like colored air. I’m saying this so that you don’t get the impression that everything was overwhelmed by the taste of blue cheese. There was just a smattering of blue cheese on the sandwich – just enough to let me know that I hadn’t lost my sense of taste completely due to an as-of-yet-unknown case of COVID or something. They literally could have 3-D printed a sandwich and thrown on some blue cheese crumbles and it would have had more taste than this sandwich from Potbelly.

About 1/4th of the way into the sandwich, in desperation I took off the top half of the sub roll with the hope that maybe there was too much bread and that if I could get one bite of all of the ingredients then it would somehow meld into something much tastier. It didn’t and I ended up throwing almost half of my sandwich away because it was too depressing to continue eating something that was so unenjoyable.

Thankfully I had ordered the Zapp’s New Orleans Kettle Style Voodoo regular potato chips and they saved the day – or at least my lunch hour. They have a great crunch and the taste is similar to a dill flavored chip but with a slightly sweet undertone. Though I doubt that there will be a “next time” when it comes to ordering a Potbelly sandwich, I would definitely order these chips again if I find them elsewhere, or maybe try the Voodoo Hot chips for a little bit more spice.

Placed order online at 1:27 said order will be ready at 1:42 arrived at 1:38 board at pick up showed order still being processed at 1:44 board showed order was ready and on the shelf but no order were on shelf. At 1:47 asked about order and staff member looked around as if order was hard to find and was told it was still being worked on. I like most people was on my lunch break and simply didn’t have any extra time to spare due to attendance policy at my Job. I was expecting timely service especially this being my first order and first experience with this company. When asked for a refund because i couldn’t wait any longer I was told it would have to go to the district manager for approval so who knows if I’ll get my lunch money back, went hungry my entire lunch break and the rest of my shift and lost my lunch money. I know i should have just went to Jersey Mikes instead of trying somewhere new at least I would have at least gotten my food or money back but to lose both is just incredible dissatisfaction. The counter girl with the red weave or red hair apparently she's either black or mix has the worse attitude for service and definitely should not represent this business 😒 whoever hired her should ask her to find another job because she doesn't fit in this work. She is rude and definitely has no communication skills, patience, and tolerance to wait on customers. I literally walked 🚶‍♂️ out and told her i will review her terrible business and i will take this up to regional or headquarters. I am tired 😫 of bad service in Texas.
