UPDATE 11/4/18: Observations from a frequent patron. This store has actually gotten worse since it has been remodeled. It has nothing to do with the staff. The working conditions are apparently much more challenging than ever before. The drive thru is horrible, the wait time is horrible. The parking lot is terrible. Placing a mobile order and trying to get into the store to pick it up is sometimes impossible. The Tower's store has just reopened after it's remodel, and there is no comparison between the two stores. Tower's is awesome. Hands down over Southern Hills. At this point, driving the extra four miles to Tower's looks like will be my choice. Sad situation all the way around. No wonder Starbucks is losing customers and revenue. I'm starting to wonder what keeps the employees happy. Discouraging in so many ways. Best of luck Southern Hills. Again, great staff, doing the best they can to serve the public in an often impossible environment.

UPDATE 8/7/18: The interior renovations are great for the staff. For the customers who may need or want to work or study, the layout is terrible. Installation of family style tables where everyone is right on top of each other has ruined the atmosphere of a quaint coffee shop.

Unfortunately I will not be able to work remotely from this location anymore due to the poor layout and lack of thought put into this renovation. 😒. It's really a bad layout. ...

I mean, it's a Starbucks. They are all kind of alike. And while I love to support quirky local coffee shops, Starbucks always feels like "home" wherever you are, which is nice because I just moved to Roanoke. I am writing this review because the people who work here are SO nice. Ben (morning shift) in particular was patient with my crazy, high-maintenance order and helped me order it in the most cost-effective way possible and even went above and beyond to explain why it might cost more at a different location. Anyway, he should get employee of the month if you do that sort of thing. And if Starbucks, as an organization, could just get some vegan treats (oatmeal and dry bagels, while good, do NOT count!), I may never go to another coffee...
