Bakery Cafe Rockport — Restaurant in Rockport

The sign says safe place but only if your white .This place is horrible. We walked in the male waiter looked at us and made us wait. Then tells us in a harsh tone to just sit down as he stumbled and moved around some cups to make it look like he’s busy. When we told him we had a party of 14 he told us “ oh no we can’t accommodate that. I looked around and saw there was just two other family’s sitting in the restaurant. He then tell us we can’t put tables together. And we would have to sit apart. We went outside talked it out and decided that we would just sit in different tables. The male waiter then said “I don’t know why they don’t go some where else. The female waiter talked to the owner and he said it was fine. And she starts trying to help and move around tables, so it was just the male waiter that was troubled. The female waiter tried to explain to us that there was only one cook and it would be a while. But it more felt like it was because we were Mexicans that the male waiter didn’t want to serve us. After talking the female waiter that we didn’t want him as our server he yells “ I didn’t want to serve them anyway and why can’t they just go some where else. We then tried to explain what was the difference if there was 14 of us and they didn’t want to serve us but if the restaurant was full would the cook just stop cooking. So some of us stormed out. The cook then rushed one of the female in our group and was yelling at here. When the boyfriend of the girl that was verbal accosted approached the cook and told him say it to my face instead of here the cook cowered away. Then as the rest of us walked out of the restaurant the cook confirmed that this restaurant was racist. Yelling “out go back to f**king Mexico . So I would not advise if you are of an ethnicity but white that you stay away from this place because Mexicans are not welcome and will be meet with attitude from the male waiter and the cook. I don’t know if the cook is the owner but the own never came out to put an end to the situation. Again I will not recommend this place. After reading some review they confirmed that this place doesn’t like Mexicans . The female waitress was nice and helpful but nothing else came be recommended. We drove to another restaurant and that place told us thats why no one in rock...

I don’t know if we went on a bad day or what. We found out about this place through Google during our drive back home from vacation and decided to stop by because of the wonderful reviews it had. When we walked in the place was absolutely dirty! Several empty tables where filled with dirty dishes, napkins and crumbs on the floor, and flies everywhere. The dirty tables were never picked up and wiped down the entire time we were there, which made us a little skeptical about the cleanliness of the place.

We decided to give the food a try and it was ok in my book. We ordered the huevos rancheros, my kids had the pancakes and chicken tenders. While my kids did enjoy their meals, my husband and I found our food to be average. And, honestly, I was worried about the food not being safe after seeing the mess all around us and the lack of care from the staff.

I must say the people there were absolutely LOVELY! Very polite and warm. And yes, the food is quite affordable.

I am leaving this comment so that the owners and staff can be more cautious about the cleanliness of the place, not to destroy this business. First impressions matter and cleanliness is definitely at the top of the list.

If you’re planning on going, give it a chance. Many people have enjoyed the place. Maybe our experience...

Sam the server was spectacular! Poor service can ruin any dining experience so I was thankful for her cheerful attitude and her intuition enough to stay away until I had a little kawfee in me.

All the staff appeared to work hard. They didn't leave tables dirty and they managed the influx of diners very well.

The booths were comfortable and adjustable which makes for a relaxing breakfast, for me anyway.

The food was excellent! I ordered my hash browns crispy and my eggs over medium (slightly runny yolks). Over medium eggs are very easy to over cook and mine were. They were still enjoyable but I love cutting into a yolk and seeing the slow flow of that yellow goodness. The coffee was great! Fresh coffee. And I wished they had real gravy. House Made gravy is cheap and easy. And they could truly elevate their plates by covering them in a made from scratch sausage or bacon gravy.

I cannot wait to visit the Rockport area again. When I do, I will return to...
