I ate here on March 12, 2023, at about 3:00-4:00 p.m. The last time I was in a Genghis Grill was probably 2012? 2013? in Durango, CO and several times prior to that in various locations throughout the US. I think things have changed since my last visit. I don't recall having the metal bowls with rings to put meats and veggies in while the staff filled a bowl with the base ingredients (in my case, half shredded cabbage and half Udon noodles). I was confused when I came in, because things seemed so different from my previous visit so many years ago. The waiter (Richard? redhead with red beard) explained the process to me that the staff would prepare the base and I would put what I wanted in the metal bowl and pass it to them. When I prepared the metal bowl (heavy on seafood with salmon, calamari, and shrimp with beef, broccoli, onions, and a few other items), I added sesame sauce directly to the my meats and vegetables, but the staff politely informed me that that would cause the sesame sauce to carmelize but they could straighten it out by rinsing the vegetables. They then explained that I should take two sauces in two of the small containers. I chose sesame sauce and teriyaki (I think). It did take a while to cook what I wanted and a while for them to prepare the base. That is really my only complaint. The food was cooked beautifully and the staff (all of them) were quite friendly and helpful. My only suggestion is that the procedure should be posted on a large sign somewhere with step-by-step instructions so the less alert of us (several nights with little sleep) can refer to them easily. Will I come back here? I pass by often but rarely stop in Rockwall. However, if I lived in Rockwall, this would be one of my favorite places to dine. I recommend it highly. Parking is a little limited,. Seating is comfortable. Lots of open, airy space with comfortable atmosphere. Very clean. Lots of windows with lots of sunshine. Good unsweet, iced tea. Cost was about $21-$23 as I recall, which...
Read moreThree of us went to the one in Rockwall for my wife's birthday. None of the people there seemed like they wanted to be there first off. The meat and vegetable selections all had Gnats flying around them. Normally at this point I would bounce, but didn't want to piss my wife off on her birthday. Manager said they had the place treated for them a week ago and expected another week for the Gnats to be under control. He also said the Gnats were coming out of the drains. I informed him that from my certification in septic system inspection and maintenance the gnats were most likely coming up and out of the septic through the drains , and that is a FOOD SAFETY AND SANITATION ISSUE-IF NOT A HEALTH CODE VIOLATION....APATHY ON HIS PART. Now the "food". I got a portion of the "steak" was such a cheap cut and so tough that my jaws were aching trying to chew it. What they qualify as sauces are flavored waters of a few types, and the rest are thick gelatinous mixtures, each of the same consistency...syrup basically. The "base" they call it, like noodles or various rices are piled on so heavy, your meat and vegetables become lost in it. The service; food arrived with no eating utensils, drinks do not arrive before or with the meal, only after you start eating do beverages come. After the staff served the meal they go over to the side and immediately get on their cell phones and start BSing with each other. What a giant disappointment this place is. The front of house is also very unclean as well. The people cooking the food appeared as if they were partaking in the Bataan Death March by the looks on their faces. absolutely horrible. Next time Ill invest another 20 minutes of driving further to get good food. Shortly after on the way home all three of us started to feel nauseated and our bowels rumbled all the way home, Ill spare yall the rest of those gory details. Eat here at your own peril. Yall have been warned. Price for three of us to get slopped was a...
Read moreMy wife and I love Genghis Grill. So when we had opportunity to eat at GG while passing through Rockwall, Texas, we took it. Don't let the small size of their bowls fool you. You will be lucky to eat all you put in it. My wife said I am probably the world champion at stacking the bowl. You will find an awesome array of meat, veggies, and sauces. If you ever thought you were better than the chef, well now you can find out. Go through the food line, meat first, careful! More to come. Veggies next, watch out for the jalapeños, they bite. Next in line is the sauce assortment. I am especially fond of the garlic and soy mixture. Drop off your choices to the cook, have a seat. I have never encountered a bad cook at Genghis Grill. Your selection will be brought to your table piping hot. Piping meaning steamy hot, be careful. Why the the four? First the wait staff could use more training in courtesy. That brings me to the second issue. We are very generous tippers, usually 25 to 30%. However we do not reward rude, obnoxious, lazy, entitled attitudes. Then in addition, Genghis has a credit card system which gives tip options starting at18%. You may choose other, then put in the amount you want the tip to be. We went to other, then made a 10% tip. A message popped up asking, "are you sure you want to tip this amount? Well yes! That is why we took the trouble to select other. This tip system is rude, as well as presumptuous. 18% seems fair, if the service and attitude warrant such amount. If not, there is...
