When it's Birthday, time our go-to spot for an affordable steak is always, Saltgrass in Rockwall. Located conveniently off of I30 on the West side service road. We are Landrys Select Club members, which offers points with each visit and, when reaching a certain dollar amount, will reward the member with a $25 credit to use. Also, with birthdays, the issuing member receives a courtesy $25 credit. It's a great reward program that you have to purchase to opt into, but the card never expires and pays for itself over time. Now, on with my review. Saltgrass is a true Texas Steakhouse, which is all Texas classy themed. The entrance is large with bottles of wine in cases behind the host stand. They have a nice bar area to the right that serves a wide range of specialty mixed drinks, assorted beers, and wine. We always dine later to avoid crowds if you dine earlier be expected to wait to be seated, especially during weekends and holidays. We were seated quickly at a table that was roomy for 2. The waitress, Maria, was very organized and quick to take our drink orders and bringing us freshly baked soda bread with honey butter, a fan favorite. We did order an appetizer of queso with brisket. The appetizer arrived very quickly. My only complaint was that there was only a small amount of Brisket on the queso. However, it was very delicious. We placed our meal order. My husband ordered the petite filet medium with crabcake, which is covered in an Oscar Creamy sauce with lump crab meat. This comes with a choice of salad or soup and a side. He chose a house salad with the homemade Blu cheese dressing and a loaded baked potato. My dinner choice was the 12 oz Pat's Ribeye, Medium Rare, with the crabcake. I also chose the house salad with the yummy homemade ranch dressing and the steamed broccoli. The salads came out quickly, and then, within 20 minutes, our dinner arrived. My husband petite filet was cooked more medium rare, which he did enjoy and was glad it was cooked less. My 12 oz Pat's Ribeye (side note, I usually order the 16 oz because the 12 oz is not as thick and tends to be cooked more at a medium which is over cooked for my taste, but I wanted the crabcake accompaniment) my steak was cooked more at a medium, but I did not want to fuss, it was my husband's birthday and no need to complain because it was delicious. I have never had the crabcake before, but it was a delicious accompaniment and complimented my steak well. The broccoli was not overcooked and was very delicious. My husband said his steak was the best he ever had there. We were full and happy and did not need to order dessert, but I can attest to the yummy goodness of their homemade carrot cakes and two fork cheesecake. Our waitress, Maria, was on her top game. She kept our dinner flowing with great timing and refills of drinks and freshly baked soda bread. They have great support staff, and one of the managers came over to thank us for our Landry card membership and wanted to know if we would like to use the $25 credit we had. Our dinner roughly cost $98 without tip. We did not have alcoholic drinks or desserts. This place is more upscale, so dress appropriately. They have a cute patio that had patio lights. The women's room is large and somewhat clean for 9:30 pm. On the back of the door in the womens room, it says mens room like you're about to go in there. Cute little joke. They do have an open kitchen concept where you can observe the chefs busy preparing the food going out. Plenty of parking includes large handicapped parking spaces and handicapped wheelchair access. The restaurant is decorated with Texas memorabilia and also large screened TVs which have sports playing. There is a dining section that had a nice stoned fireplace. For a great steak, ribs, chicken, and seafood choices, I highly recommend this...
Read more‘Accidentally’ taken off the waitlist, falsely accused of stealing, and not even given the basics like the starter bread.
This was one of the worst business experiences and certainly the worst Saltgrass location I’ve ever been to.
For starters, we were given a one hour wait time after putting our names in. No big deal. That’s common during busy times I suppose. My party decided to pass the time with drinks at the bar. After the hour passed, we checked to see how much longer. We were told we would be next.
30 minutes later, we checked again. Our name was no longer on the list. We were told we would be seated immediately as there was no longer a crowd, but we had to be ready. We went to close our tab. The bar tender told us we could pay at the table. We went back to the host to be seated. Annoyed by our very existence and desire to eat at Saltgrass, the host reluctantly led us to a very cramped space.
The cramped space would have mattered less were we not hangry from waiting over an hour and a half. As we were about to place appetizer order, the manager came to our table and accused us of walking the bar tab. The accusation itself was pretty embarrassing, and caused by their own miscommunication.
It was then that everything went south beyond repair. They didn’t apologize to us for errantly taking our names off the list; they got after us for non-existent theft. All the little things that wouldn’t matter otherwise became magnified—no bread offered, steaks way overcooked, no water refills.
Typically the manager comes over to Landry card members to go over any issues patrons may have had. I was waiting for the manager to do that here so we could air out our grievances in a non-Google Maps setting. The manager did not come by.
We asked for the manager. We were told the manager would come. After waiting 15 minutes, we figured it would probably be an hour and a half just as it was for our table, or that they had taken our name off the managerial audience list.
Typically if a mistake like missing an order or patron is made, there’s a free appetizer as a gesture of goodwill. Heck, even just an apology would have sufficed. Instead, we were accused of violating the 7th Commandment—well 7th if you’re Catholic. If you’re a protestant reading this, they accused me of stealing not committing adultery, though I really wouldn’t put it past them.
Anyways, if you’re visiting and expecting a Saltgrass, don’t come here. If you’re visiting and expecting the customer service of Dick’s Last Resort without the...
Read moreI had a terrible experience here. My husband and I came in to celebrate something insanely special and our day was ruined because of this restaurant.
The moment we walked in, the host was at the post, and she didnt look up for greet us for a 30-45 seconds. We just looked around awkwardly. It was the longest 30-45 seconds ever.
She looks up and doesnt say anything at all so my husband said “uh table for 2?” And she just grabs the menu’s and starts walking.
We followed her because we assumed we needed to, not because she ever said anything. She walked super slow. It was awkward.
The restaurant wasnt busy at all and all guests were at booths. She took us to a table in the back of the restaurant and my husband then asked “could we get a booth please?”
She stood there for a second, starts walking away slowly without saying a word, starts talking in her radio and slowly (and im not exaggerating when i say slowly) says “I’ll tryyy”.
Then immediately takes us to a booth to seat us.
We sit down and she stands there without saying a word. I felt sooo uncomfortable, I couldnt even look at her. It felt like she knew me and hated me so she was being a mean girl for no reason. As if we were rivalries in high school or something.
She grabs the menu and slaps it open on the table, going page by page slowly and talking (I’m assuming talking about specials they had?) but we couldnt hear her at all. She was talking very slow and quietly like she didnt give a fuxk.
Then she slaps the menu closed and walks away.
I didnt even want to be there anymore because I felt so unwelcomed and uncomfortable. We were visiting town as well and went out if our way to come to this restaurant to celebrate and it was such a wasted experience and meal.
I didnt talk the whole time besides when I ordered because I felt so uncomfortable. I questioned if she was racist, if the restaurant was racist, if she hated the way i dressed. Again, I’m not from here. So we have never met in our lives.
So yeah. Terrible customer service. Terrible experience. I dont recommend. I was too afraid to speak to a manager because I thought maybe the entire staff is racist or something based off of how the host treated us.
Also, the host was a shorter pretty girl with brown hair and I think lashes done. Seems pretty young. This was on a weekday in...
