I saw that of the seafood restaurants in my area, this had the highest rating, so I decided to give it a try. I ordered to go. They gave me a number to sit and wait. 30 minutes in, I see a bunch of to go bags, but as no one came over to me, I kept waiting. 40 minutes in, I ask how much longer it would be. I was told that they were waiting on an item. The food sitting there 30 minutes in? One of those were mine. 5 minutes from waiting an hour, they bring me the bag with nothing added to it. I ordered the Super Shack platter: half a pound of crab legs, half a pound of shrimp with corn, sausage and potatoes in the Cajun and garlic butter sauce. I added an additional half pound of crab legs. The crab legs were not as fresh as I would prefer, growing up in Galveston. They are supposed to snap crack. They didn’t. But, it was well seasoned and flavorful. I also ordered the fried shrimp basket and one fish fillet. The fries were not seasoned. The shrimp was well seasoned, but the fish tasted like it had not been cleaned prior to frying. The fish also wasn’t as well seasoned. The last thing I ordered was a pound of boiled crawfish. It was not as well seasoned as the Super Shack platter, but they were a good size. When it comes to seafood, since I grew up in Galveston and getting it fresh from the wharf, I don’t know whether I am being unrealistic with my expectations. No restaurant in the Dallas area I have had crab has the fresh snap crack. So maybe that’s a supply issue? I will probably give another try to see if today was just an off day.
Edited to add update: Mother’s Day I dined in and had the same issue with the crab not having that fresh snap crack, so I do think it is a supply issue.
Everything was well seasoned and delicious.
I had a brownie dessert that was...
Read moreI normally don't leave negative reviews, because I feel that everyone or business has an off day. However, I feel this may not just be an "off day". We stumbled upon this restaurant as we were driving to get pizza. We walked in and stood at the front door for a while trying to decide if it was a seat yourself kind of joint or wait to be sat. We saw several different waitstaff (who I saw look at us) and they didn't say anything. Then, I finally realized that you have to walk up to the register to order. I normally do my research and stalk the restaurant where we would be eating, but I went rogue. Since I didn't do my research I wasn't sure what to order. We ended up ordering the cold shrimp appetizer, mahi mahi, and fish and chips. It looked like there was a full bar, but no cocktail menu (if there was one, I didn't see it). The food come out super quick which was nice. The quality well..... The shrimp was not deveined and tough. The mahi mahi, was also tough and dry, truthfully the best part of that dish was the veggies! The fish and chips were greasy and soggy. We decided not to finish the meal. Since being home my daughter has thrown up several times and I have had cramps (Hopefully this is all the symptoms I end up having!). Maybe it was an off night, but unfortunately we won't be back...
Read moreDecided to go here on a complete whim to meet a friend. I was pleasantly surprised with the menu selection, quality of food and the amount of people that were there on a Friday night, around 8:00 p.m., to eat dinner.
The food actually exceeded my expectations, only one star off for service. They were busy at the time, especially 8:00 p.m. in the evening, so it was hard to assign four stars instead of five, but it did take a little long to get just a couple of dinner salads.
Lastly, although the atmosphere was extremely lively, and the decor was appropriate for the restaurant, the music playing in the background was reminiscent of being in a taqueria somewhere in the barrio. Cumbia music being played at max volume (at an appropriate, authentic Mexican eating establishment) is cool at a place where you expect to hear that genre of music, but I was surprised to walk into a business that "forced" it's consumers to immerse themselves into that specific 'cultural' atmosphere at a seafood restaurant. I was good with it, however that may not be everyone's jam.
Overall, four stars and the good experience. I think they just need to throttle the volume of their background music back a little bit, so people can actually talk without having to raise...
