The owner Kurt is awesome, but somehow his donuts are even MORE awesome.
His original location is in Warren (and he still has it), but this Royal Oak location on Woodward Ave is new. I met him (and his donuts) at his Warren location, and I HAD to track him down at his new place.
All of his donuts are amazingly fresh, but his most unique donut is a French cruller filled with Bavarian custard. I don’t know how he does it, but not only is this doughnut unique, it tastes AWESOME. If you like custard, you have GOT to come here…just to try this donut.
The signage is not very good. If you’re looking at the building, “Daily Dozen” is easy enough to see, but if you’re driving along Woodward, you’re not very likely to notice it, unless you’re looking for it specifically. Even then, it’s not easy to find. It’s on the west side of Woodward, a little bit south of 14 Mile Road.
I live in Waterford, and we have Pete’s Oven Bakery, which has awesome donuts. Often, I will take some to my mechanic and his workers just down the street from there. The workers there boast how Pete’s is the best, but when I took them donuts from Daily Dozen, they changed their tune. They still like it when I bring in donuts from Pete’s, but they admit the Daily Dozen is better (for most donuts, anyway). That’s not an indictment against Pete’s. Daily Dozen is just that good!
Come to this place, and expect to have a hard time making yourself stop eating these donuts. They’re not for...
Read moreI have now tried both locations. I prefer the Royal Oak stop much better. The first time I went to Daily Dozen, it was at the Warren location. I had read all the great reviews so I wanted to see for myself. I was actually disappointed in their donuts. They seemed.....dry. I had chosen a selection of favorites and ones that I don't normally put on my radar, one being the sour cream donut. Let me just say I think I found Jesus that day with that sour cream donut. It was ahhhmazing. That was singlehandedly the reason I went to try the R.O. location. That donut was calling to me. It did not disappoint the second time around. It was everything I had been dreaming about. The other donuts still had that dry, sort of stale taste to them...but I almost see it as a "healthy donut." Like it's OK that they don't have that crispy greasy goodness that other donuts carry. And the box that they came in didn't have grease soaking in to it, which you kind of expect at donut shops. Their chocolate glaze/frosting is REALLY good. The sour cream donut though, it was life altering...TRY IT! The staff is...
Read moreI drive by this place on my way to work everyday and the giant pink donut with the color changing sprinkles in the window always makes me smile.
The Dunkin Donuts that I usually stop at for my coffee was closed this morning. So, I decided to swing in and see what Daily Dozen had to offer. They didn't have a coffee bar and that was perfectly okay because they had a cooler with water.
I had no idea, when I pulled into my parking spot, that I'd be stepping into donut Heaven. When you see their donuts, you know that they're made from scratch. They have some really unique varities, for example custard filled French Crullers and coconut custard donuts. If I had to guess, the custard was made from scratch. It was perfect!!!
When I saw how delish the donuts looked, I decided to pick up a couple of dozen for the office. Everyone loved them.
The man who helped me was really friendly as well.
I'll definitely stop by again in the future to get donuts for my co-workers.
Bonus PSA - This donut shop accepts debit and credit cards. 😊 I thought I'd throw that out here since...
