Thai 101 — Restaurant in Royal Oak

Absolutely AMAZING! For starters, I highly recommend the Tom Kha soup, especially on cold winter days, it's sure to warm your body and tantalize your taste buds!

As far as noodles go, the Drunken Noodles can't be beaten, with savory brown sauce and freshly stir-fried vegetables, and the Pad Thai... well, the Pad Thai is the BEST I've had outside of Thailand and is always part of my order.

All of the food is made to order FRESH and lovingly prepared in the kitchen by authentic Thai chefs, which is one reason why this food is so dang delicious. Because they make your food to order, you can tailor your spice levels to your preferred level. I like mine medium+/hot, which is quite spicy by American standards. (Pro tip: Proceed with caution when you consider your spice level, I tried "hot" once and it was... ahem, HOT! You can always add more if you like).

The other reason that Thai 101 is the "go-to place" for my Thai food fix, is the owner's hospitality. Her warm smile and attention to detail is unparalleled and she ensures that the quality and taste of the food she serves meet her rigorous standards.

My daughter and I went here on 5/19/2025. We were greeted with a friendly smiling kind woman (one of the owners). We started with Crab Ragoon great craftsmanship, full of wonderful flavors, not greasy, also Shrimp in a Wrap again cooked perfectly and great flavor. The dipping sauce was thick and flavorful, not watery. I had Tom Kha Soup, it was delicious very fresh the stock had so much depth. I always order my spice level Hot it was suggested to order medium that was perfect. My daughter ordered Curry Pad Thai she totally enjoyed, I sampled and yes again the flavors, freshness were spot on, not clumped together lots of sauce. I ordered Red Curry with out green peppers accommodated. Very fresh spice spot on the shrimp were fresh along with everything else. We choose to order dinner size even though it was lunch, great option.Our waters were never empty. We were given plater silverware and chop sticks. Our main dishes and soup were served in carry out containers which worked perfectly that way our server put the kids on and placed in a bag for us. The prices were great. It's a very small place not much room for storage therefore everything is fresh fresh fresh. Wonderfully delicious food made fresh for each order! Delightful atmosphere, complete with flowers! Seating is limited with one good sized table and a long counter with stools and a nice window view. (Small is part of the Thai 101 charm. It is by no means a crowded, busy, noisy trendy place. Just cozy, comfortable and very welcoming!)

Vegetarian or vegan? No Problem! Thai 101 has plenty of options on the menu and will also customize any item to suit. The same goes for food intolerances or allergies.

The person who took care of us was very welcoming, attentive and gracious. (The phrase "took care of us" is more appropriate than "serving us", which doesn't do justice to the care and attention that we received. We were each treated as though family.) Also of note were the very affordable prices and many, often creative, selections on the menu.

Parking may be a bit tough out front (but is available) and there are plenty of spaces in back and on the side street, too.

To summarize: Fantastic food, peaceful surroundings and treatment as though we were family. This is a very relaxed place to enjoy a meal or order a take-away meal. Certainly I'll...
