Falafel King — Restaurant in Royal Oak

Best hummus in the metro-Detroit area (okay, i may have sampled only about 15 middle eastern places in metro-D, incl. Dearborn, and tbere may be about 50 places that deserve to be sampled 😁). Falafel King is a deli, takeout place with 2-3 tables where one can grab a quick bite or take home. Guys behind the counter (Sean, the owner forget his name?, And a third guy Evan, ...) are very friendly and service oriented, take special requests on the sandwiches (extra tahini or extra pepper, ...) and falafel plates ... The "world's best" hummus 😁, wrap sandwiches, falafel plates, and lentil soup are favorites of my daughters, one of whom is vegan. Falafel King is regular weekly stop on my drive ... Stopped buying the over-processed, sabra-type, mass-distributed brands in grocery stores, I buy the hummus here of course lasts only 3-4 days because it has no preservatives .. typically no problem of it going bad, the family polishes a big hummus $6.95...

I’m an African American woman who loves the taste of falafel. Yesterday I bought a falafel sandwich from this place. I asked for their “falafel queen” sandwich (from their menu that I was told had eggplant on it that I wanted to try and for them to put a thick paste of garlic sauce on it. They said yes and I paid and even tipped them in advanced before receiving my sandwich. I left with my sandwich and later discovered that there was no eggplant nor garlic sauce on it! And they were only speaking non-English while I was there!! I definitely am not going back there and suggest that others who are like me not do...

I work manual labor in the area and stop here at least once a week for lunch. I am so thankful for Falafel King for the nutritious and delicious food that they provide. Either the regular kafta or the chicken kafta are to die for and the lunch entree comes with rice, salad, hummus, garlic sauce, and pita bread. The house recipe spinach and cheese pastries (spinach pie?) are amazing. You have to try them. I recommend to eat them warm/hot. Staff is always friendly. I wish nothing but success to the owners. Their food...
