The food was great. It was a little bit pricey and the lunch menu was very limited. I gotta come for dinner next time because the dinner menu looks more extensive and had more variety.
I decided to come here after reading reviews for the place I always ordered on door dash and finding out some unsavory information. One of the reviews specifically mentioned that they were grateful Oshima was only down the street, so I decided to give them a try instead.
The restaurant was clean and the staff was very kind and upbeat. My dad (who does not like sushi but foolishly just ordered what I did, even though I love it) actually placed a second order halfway into the meal and they were very gracious about it. They didn't act annoyed or put upon at all, and were able to bring it out relatively quickly. I'm usually a little stingy with the tip, but they took good care of us so I was more than happy to be more generous.
My only complaint is that they don't have physical menus. They just placed down 2 QR codes that download the food menu and beverage menu onto your phone. It was a little inconvenient because scrolling around the tiny font on your phone screen is a bit of a pain as opposed to having a proper menu in your hand to look at. The hostess also didn't actually tell us that was what they were for. I just figured it out when they never brought menus. So, if we were older or smart phone illiterate, we might not have ever figured it out.
Other than that, it was great. I'll definitely go back. The dinner menu looks great. Or I might even just order a sushi boat and leave...
Read moreSurprised by the large number of 5-star reviews; maybe we just had a bad chef experience?
We shared a few sushi rolls and a beef teriyaki bento box. The rolls were pretty terrible. Sushi rice seemed undercooked. Not flavorful at all. Nothing like bad fish that made us ill: it just didn't taste good. And these weren't very exotic rolls either: typical fare like a green dragon. It falls short of the sushi I could pick up at a grocery store. And to top it off, one of the 8 pieces on one of the rolls was almost entirely rice.
The bento was actually terrible. Each piece of beef was either extremely tough or had huge pieces of fat. And I'm not usually one to gripe about quantity, but for an $18 bento box I certainly expected a bit more beef than was provided.
I usually don't write poor reviews, but I thought the extremely mediocre sushi coupled with the terrible bento box warranted complaint at the prices we paid. This isn't a cheap place: at $12-15 per roll I expected some high quality.
The only redeeming quality of this place is the staff: they were attentive, quick to refill our water, and friendly. So we still tipped well! But I certainly felt ripped off by the cost of the...
Read moreVegetarian friendly sushi restaurant!! Thank you Oshima! I love japanese food but am a vegetarian and most restaurants don't have many options for vegetarians, what little they have has no special rolls and no vegetable tempura rolls.
This place has a nice little vegetarian section right on the menu, no having to explain a want a vegetable tempura cut roll and getting blank looks of confusion like I'm trying to order something crazy.
It would be nice to have a few more veggie options but these guys had the second best selection on menu of any place I've been.
The food was great, service was great and they had what I wanted without special ordering anything.
Wish list: Add a few things using stuff you already have like a veggie philadelphia roll, a jalapeno roll, a roll that gets tempura as a whole roll and some other creative veggie roll or two and you would be the greatest veggie sushi place ever... until then your 2nd best sushi restaurant for vegetarians I've ever been to. First is a vegan sushi restaurant in SF, but they set a very high bar. Thank you for thinking of...
