My daughter took me here for my 68th birthday celebration. We waited 15 minutes to be seated. Then we waited 15 minutes before we had to call a wait person to ask for a menu. What we ordered to drink was a glass of ice and Jasmine tea. A glass of ice and a glass of water was placed on the table. My daughter ordered Dimsum and was told there's none, yet it was served to all of the tables around us and, the tables behind where we sat. We ordered noodles with pork, pork fried rice/ no egg, garlic pork green beans, barbecued pork, and cucumber salad and, asked for chop sticks and hot pepper oil. No chop sticks, hot pepper oil or Jasmine tea was served. Four different times attempts were made to get the attention of the wait staff. No one ever came back to ask if things were okay. The food was ALL COLD when it was served. They acted as if we were invisible!!! And just so the staff and management here know--- Money is green. The color of ones skin does NOT determine how much money one has. This is the third time my daughter has attempted to eat here. The first two she left because of being seated and not being served. We came on the 28, October because of my birthday, I had never had any issue here. I wonder how management would appreciate their parents receiving the treatment that we received? Wait staff went to other tables, they served Dimsum to other tables. They made sure the lady at one of the tables got no food with msg. But, she had to get up and go get the wait person. Why were we dismissed and told by the lady who seemed to be in charge that they were really busy- she bought tea AFTER the check had been paid, which I left untouched- When I mentioned the Dimsum she told me it was a steamed dumpling as if I didn't know what I was talking about! No, I have been a waitress and NO customer should be treated as we were, ever. The food here is delicious when served hot but, this was horrible service and, it did not make for a good birthday experience. Management needs to let staff here know Black people like good food and deserve good Service. Skin color does NOT DETERMINE THE CONTENT OF WHAT IS IN YOUR WALLET!!!! If there wasn't enough staff to serve customers then they should have done take out only orders or closed off sections of the restaurant. I didn't see other customers ignored or not receiving service. I have eaten in restaurants from New York to Florida, from North Carolina to California and, from Mexico to Canada and, in all of my 68 years this is the worse service I have...
Read moreIt was okay. Certainly not what I was expecting, given the kind of reviews they have. I guess that kind of set me up with higher expectations.
We ordered the Honey walnut shrimp, Shrimp dumpling, Chicken feet, Golden cream bun, Shanghai soup dumpling and Cripsy chicken.
The honey walnut shrimp was too mayonnaise-y. It was also fried using panko bread crumbs, instead of the usual lightly crispy batter at other places. Not saying it's bad, but it certainly is different. If anything, the Walnuts made this dish. Yummy sugar coated goodness!
The shrimp dumpling was okay. Light and translucent wrapper filled with shrimp.
Chicken feet, which is one of our favorite dimsum items, lacked any sort of flavor. The color and sauce was there, but it tastes like they skimped out on using herbs like five spice or star anise and such. It was absolutely disappointing, especially since it was so tender. If there was any flavor, I'm sure I would have loved it. I've tried to cook this myself in the past, and that tasted better that what came out of this "authentic" Chinese cooking.
The crisy chicken (half) was dry like the Sahara. Definitely overcooked, to some extent. And yet, the skin was very crispy and light. Very odd - I wonder how that happened?
The soup dumpling (xiao long bao) wasn't too bad, just didn't have a lot of soup in them.
If anything, the only order that we liked was the golden cream bun. Soft and fluffy, and the creamy Salted egg filling was absolutely delicious. decadent, but not to the extent that you get tired of sick of it.
So out of 6 orders, the only item that was good was the golden cream buns.. And the Walnuts. For that price, I don't think I'll be coming back.
If that was "the best" in Sacramento, then I guess there's not a lot of good Chinese places here. Such a shame.
I know a lot of affordable and good dimsum places in the East Bay, but I they're too far away to travel to. So I guess back to the hunt for...
Read moreWORST EXPERIENCE I’VE EVER HAD AT A RESTAURANT IN MY LIFE. No covid regulations or social distancing AT ALL. They sat us right next to a large party and our backs were nearly touching the other people. We had to ask to move tables to social distance a bit. When we ordered, they told us most of the items we wanted were unavailable /ran out so our choices were super limited. The online menu they told us to look at had no prices so we had to switch back and forth between the online menu with pictures and a paper menu with prices. On top of their already overpriced items, they also charge an extra $2 per food item for a supposed “covid fee”, which doesn’t make sense since they don’t even try to comply with any covid rules. Overall customer service was rude and indifferent. They didn’t give us any spoons, water, or soy sauce and didn’t check on us to see if we needed anything. We had to ask for water and they gave us ONE cup for my entire family. The lady in the red rushed us to order barely 5 minutes after sitting down and we were in and out of the place in less than 40 mins because everything was so rushed. The food itself tasted decent but portions were small and it felt like they already had everything pre-prepared because it was slightly cold. My family ALWAYS tip, even if the service is subpar but this place truly did not deserve it. When we didn’t tip, they actually STOPPED US AND TOLD US TO TIP. If they were going to force tips, why not just include it in the price in the first place. Will never come back and I would not recommend this restaurant even to my...
