THIS IS A REVIEW FOR THEIR DELI SANDWICHES, NOT THE CAKES. I really wanted to like Rick’s Sandwiches. The dessert is great and the interior is just delightful. I think what really turns me off about the sandwiches, however, is the fact that they have a huge sign outside that says “AND NOW SERVING THE BEST DELI SANDWICHES IN SACRAMENTO” Really? Bit of a bold claim, one might think you would need to earn that title, not just state it outright while lacking any evidence to support it. No matter, if it’s a true claim it will be evident in the sandwiches they serve, right? Unfortunately not. First of all, their toaster oven has been broken both times I’ve been in there for a sandwich (visits were months apart), so only cold sandwiches. It seems they have no intention of fixing the toaster oven. I prefer a hot sandwich with toasted bread, so this is a negative. I won’t keep this review too long. The sandwich was mediocre. The bread was stale and had hard seeds that felt like they could do some serious damage to someone with weaker teeth. The meat was bland and lacking seasoning. Lettuce was acceptable but felt like something I could get out of a bag from Safeway. I’m pretty sure there was MAYBE 2 slices of bacon in my sandwich that they microwaved before putting it into my sandwich. I will say the sandwich was wrapped well and the presentation was clean. It wasn’t bad, per se, but it was FAR from “THE BEST DELI SANDWICH IN SACRAMENTO”. It’s insulting, to be honest. Also, it’s $15.99. So not like this has any sort of value proposition. Go to beach hut deli across the street, or Corti Bros, or Roxie’s. Anywhere but here. I do enjoy their cakes though.

I am very disappointed in this company. I've been a faithful customers for year's, since they was at their other location. I buy cakes for each birthday and some holidays. Last year, April 2020 i ordered a cake for my huby. They put "DAVE" on the cake instead of "BABE". I didn't think to look at it nor did the employee before boxing it up. I bought so many cakes there, i love them and never had a problem. So i get it home and i called to talk to the owner/manager. He was nice about it and gave me a discount on it and then it was solved. I ordered several cakes after that. April is here again for my huby's birthday. I go inn to ordered the cake for the party. They was over charging me for the same cakes i been getting for years. Then i was paying ten more dollars for more walnuts on the cake, witch is fine. He came out and said we are refusing service to you. I was like why. He said we had a problem with you before. I said your company messed up babe and put Dave wasn't my fault and i thought we was over that and solved it. He said no i am not dealing with you. I told him i bought several cakes after that and it's been a year now i am ordering it for my husband again. He said i don't care, very rudely. Just crazy how faithful you can be to a company and they don't care how they hurt your feelings. Specialty when I've been such a great customer for year's. Very disappointed. When i thought we solved the situation and was passed it when i bought so mamy cakes after that... You give a business your hard earned money and then when they messed up on my cake they penalized me for it. Not fair at all or right.!!

As you drive by there is LARGE Banner saying "Voted Sacramento's best deli sandwich" This got our attention as we love deli sandwiches. The sandwich was disappointing. The young gal took 15 min to make 2 sandwiches while visiting a long while with a coworker. There were 7 people standing around when we went in and It was not clean. Back to the sandwiches. The bread was hard as a rock. The Insides slid off causing a mess. A true sandwich Maker knows how to prevent this. Funny part was they were dry. I ordered Mayo, horseradish and mustard and it was dry. Why did it slide? No flavor either. Now, I am a 30 baker veteran. I also order a slice of the vanilla buttercream cake and my hubby a mini cherry pie. What happened? We ended up throwing away the cherry pie after two bites. The crust was embarrassing and the pie filling from a container. I couldn't bear to have more than a few bites lord have mercy. Well, all the cakes and pastry's are sooooooooo beautiful 😍. My vanilla was mediocre and a Lil on the dry side. Add more vanilla extract and some oil please. This place brings in the folks make it great! Wipe the doors down and have the employees work when it's slow . I watched a non gloved person wipe his nose with a bare hand and not wash his hands then cut cake😤. Holy moly!!! Nice atmosphere and so many beautiful choices. Just not a good first time experience for us. Won't be back.
