I recently had the pleasure of dining at Obi's Fillin' Station, and it was a delightful experience from start to finish.
Ambiance
Obi's Fillin' Station is a gas station–themed diner that serves American fare, including burgers and breakfast, all amid car-part decor. The atmosphere is quirky and fun, with vintage car parts and memorabilia adorning the walls, making it a unique and enjoyable place to dine. An interesting fact about Obi's Fillin' Station is that it cleverly incorporates automotive themes into every aspect of the dining experience, from the menu names to the decor.
Jump Starts (Appetizers)
We started with the Big Block Piston Rings, which are extra-large panko-crusted crispy onion rings served with Obi sauce. Priced at $9.65, these onion rings were perfectly crispy and flavorful, with the Obi sauce adding a delightful tangy kick. They were a great way to kick off our meal.
Entrée (Obi's Garage)
For the main course, I opted for The Fire Engine, a half-pound prime beef burger with chipotle seasonings, pepper jack cheese, jalapeño peppers, a panko onion ring, a slice of avocado, and spicy mayo. Served on a fresh Obi bun with a side of French fries, this burger was a flavor explosion. Each bite was packed with a perfect blend of spice and savory goodness, making it worth every bit of the $15.65 price tag.
Finish Line (Dessert)
To finish off the meal, I indulged in a 16 oz vanilla milkshake for $5.65. It was creamy, rich, and the perfect way to cool down after the spicy burger. The classic vanilla flavour was spot-on, providing a satisfying end to a fantastic meal.
Service
The service at Obi's Fillin' Station was exceptional, thanks in large part to our server, Summer. Her excellent customer service, high energy, and helpful nature made our dining experience truly memorable. She was attentive, quick to offer recommendations, and ensured that we had everything we needed throughout our visit. Summer's dedication and positive attitude deserve high praise and recognition.
Overall, our visit to Obi's Fillin' Station was outstanding. The unique ambiance, delicious food, and top-notch service made for an enjoyable and memorable dining experience. We’ll definitely be...
Read moreMy wife is an aficionado of hamburgers and sandwiches, so when I researched places to try during our anniversary trip to St. Augustine, this was at the top of my list. Sadly, I can't say either of us walked away with any high regard for the place...
The location itself has enough paraphernalia hanging from the walls and on display on the floor to excite any car guy, or car gal. They even have a Fram oil filter subbing as a light from the ceiling (no kidding). This is about as good as it got for us.
The food we ordered, a Philly sandwich with au jus was bland (even with the au jus)5 and their Mustang burger was okay (a tad undercooked from the medium-well requested). But the real kicker was the service. I'm not sure what was the deal, but the waitress appeared to be having a tough day. She tried to make it up in small ways, but it was still painfully obvious through her slightly annoyed attitude. (I got the feeling she wanted to be anywhere on the planet but there.) The other kicker - a pet peeve of mine - was that she didn't write down our order. Which is all fine and good, except I have had zero luck with waiters or waitresses memorizing orders. Today was no different. Though she got our dinner choices correct, she forgot to put in our appetizer order. Ah well, we really didn't need it anyway...
To put the icing on this cake, their A/C failed on them, or at least partially. The dining area was opened to the elements making for a warm indoor dining experience. At least the drinks we...
Read moreVisited for breakfast and it was great. I accidentally arrived a few minutes before opening time, but was welcomed in by the two workers inside. There was already another customer enjoying their breakfast, so I thought that was nice that they accommodated us early arrivers.
The atmosphere is unique and interesting. The inside is rather small, but the 10 or 15 of us had plenty of elbow room. Besides several tables and at least 1 booth, there are several chairs at a counter facing the street in front of open windows. That must be nice to people watch on A1A. They seem to be managing their tight space very well.
All of the menu items have interesting auto-themed names. I forget what mine was called, but it was hash, eggs, toast and breakfast potatoes. They had a few different types of toast...I had the sourdough and it was real good. The over easy eggs were cooked nicely and the potatoes were slightly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. They were yummy and did not need any additional seasoning. The homemade hash was very good. Unfortunately, they are prepared with green peppers, which I do not care for. When the server checked on me, I said it was my bad for not asking how the hash was prepared. He immediately offered to put on another serving and leave out the peppers. I thought that was way above and beyond as it was totally my fault for not asking beforehand. All in all a great experience and I will be returning to...
