I like Culvers. The food tastes good, the ice cream is yummy (I got a raspberry banana shake and the fruit tasted like FRUIT not sugary syrup pretending to be fruit, which was AMAZING!)
So why the low stars? Well, honestly its the gluten-free thing. So I tend to get lettuce wraps at burger joints. Its pretty simple, make a burger like you normally, just throw it on some lettuce instead of a bun. Culvers doesn't do "lettuce wraps", which is fine, its easily solved by simply asking for "no bun". But, and I dont understand this, I have never been to a culvers who understand that "no bun" DOESN'T mean "no anything except the meat patty".
Culvers burgers boat of the toppings: cheese, sauce, lettuce, onions, tomatoes! Beautiful, glorious toppings! But every time I order a burger, with all the glorious toppings but "no bun" I am inevitably given a meat patty, usually with cheese, placed straight in the paper, and nothing else.
This has 3 problems: 1) the hot, greasy burger immediately disolves the paper, and I get to pick soggy paper off my pricy meat patty, and 2) what happened to the rest of it?! Culvers is the only burger joint where, no matter which one I go to, thinks that without a bun I'm only ordering a meat patty. Which leads to 3) when I ask for all the toppings I ordered, I'm usually met with confusion and uncertaintly, and a comment to the effect of "I'm not sure we can do that...?" Usually it works out, though, and they bring the toppings, and I dump my burger onto the lettuce and commence picking out the soggy paper.
Bottom line: the food is tasty, and the people friendly, but if you're GF, be prepared to put extra emphasis on actually getting all that...
Read moreAfter a long day of swimming at the Veyo pool, my son wanted a treat. I offered him a choice between a shake or Culver’s custard. He chose Culver’s, because in his seven-year-old world, custard is king. We’ve been patrons for years, not only because it’s close to home but also because it’s one of his favorite spots. We’ve ridden our bike through the drive-through three times before without so much as a hiccup. Every time, the staff has been kind, quick, and even funny. Tonight, however, we met Kayla.
Kayla decided to take a hard stance on policy and refused to serve us at the window because we were on a bicycle. She said it was a safety hazard. I asked what danger a bicycle poses that a motorcycle doesn’t. She froze, said she didn’t know, and then turned rude, hiding behind the word “policy” like it was a badge of honor. Here’s the thing: good customer service isn’t about being “right.” It’s about solving small problems with small compromises. Kayla could have explained the policy, helped us just this once, and we would have understood. Instead, my son went home in tears, my wife had to drive down, and we all lost what should have been a simple evening together.
The result? Culver’s lost a loyal customer. Not because of custard, not because of policy, but because an employee decided that winning a power struggle was more important than keeping a family happy. For years we’ve chosen Culver’s because of convenience and great past service. Now we’ll be driving farther out of our way to Nielsen’s Frozen Custard. And every time we do, I’ll be reminded of how Kayla’s need to be “right” cost Culver’s our business.
One bad scoop can ruin...
Read moreShoutout to the owner of this Culver’s franchise and the young adults that were working there the night of February 1st, 2025! Their incredible kindness will not be forgotten in our family.
Our family’s matriarch, Cleo Atkin, passed away that night with our whole family gathered at her side. This Culver’s was one of her favorite lunch spots in town. We were ordering here partially to honor her memory. My whole extended family tasked me with placing the take-out order and delivering it back to everyone. Unfortunately, mistakes were made with such a large order. None of the sides and a chicken sandwich our family ordered made it into the to-go bags. I didn’t realize the mistake until after returning to the family and seeing their disappointment when parts of their orders were missing.
I drove back to Culver’s and explained what had happened and what the situation was. This franchise owner and staff were so generous and kind about correcting the mistake. He instructed the kitchen and employees to make all the missing sides and sandwich, loaded up two large bags full of their vanilla and chocolate custard pints with spoons and cups, and refunded the entire order. He even took the time to personally apologize about the mistake and ask me about my dear sweet grandmother.
Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity! Your service to our grieving family will never be forgotten. Our whole family was very touched by this. We love this Culver’s franchise and the staff and will be back...
