UPDATE: Never again! Brought my daughters this morning for breakfast (our yearly Mother-Daughter trip breakfast spot). The most rude customer service! No substitutions usually means you may not change one item for another; not omitting items (generally less work for the cook). Regardless, how the waitress attacked us, regarding substitutions, was absolutely uncalled for. My two adult daughters, as well as myself, have been in customer service. We would NEVER treat customers like that! And my younger two daughters were just awestruck with how rude she was. Sorry...every year, I'm a hell of a tipper...she lost out! Would have given 2 stars because she kindly brought us the correct drinks...dropped to 1 star after she chased us out the door claiming we didn't pay enough. When she checked again, she realized she actually got an undeserved tip because we wanted out of there as fast as possible. Everyone has bad days but this whole scenario was unreal and absolutely unwarranted!

And although we were hoping for a small town feel, we ended up eating at the Big Boy and the service was PHENOMENAL!

The food is pretty good but the staff is what really makes this place so welcoming! Very "down-home" atmosphere in one of the busiest tourist towns in the UP. We stop here nearly every...

We went here about 2 years ago and had an amazing French toast & custard recipe for breakfast. Came back last weekend hoping for a repeat (yes, we talked about this for 2 years!). The waitress told us it was only a seasonal/summer dish that was served on Sundays. But she asked the chef if they were going to have it the next morning or not. The chef/(owner?), said she would make a small batch special for us. Apparently this recipe is very involved and requires an overnight soak of French bread in the awesome mixture. We were very appreciative that she would go through all the trouble just for us. The next day we came in for our special treat and I think she gave us double the normal serving because it was huge! We were not disappointed. We ate so much that we were not hungry until dinner! On top of it all, she gave us a Tupperware of the leftover custard batter with directions on how to prepare it when we got home. I was so touched that I got a little choked up. This is service above and beyond. The food was amazing and the wait staff is ALWAYS friendly. We will always make this a stop when we...

Walked in to use the restroom, just cause I came from the docks and had mud all over my legs. Was upset for my own personal reasons and walked straight to the bathroom. Had to wait cause it was in use. As I’m standing waiting a lady behind the counter asked if I needed help with anything. To which I said no I’m waiting on the bathroom thank you though. She then tells me “well if you read the sign or you had walked in and asked to use the bathroom” implying that I was being rude an ignoring the signs. To which I said “I’m sorry maam I had mud all over my legs and just wanted to wash up, but I’ll leave” and wished her a beautiful day. I hope this worker feels good about herself, and the bathrooms continue to be protected it is that serious apparently! I was planning on buying a coffee after my bathroom stop (maybe after cleaning up the mud from all over my legs) but this worker chose to be rude and disrespectful. My best...

WARNING: THIS IS A LOCAL'S DINER.. You may wait literally hours while all the locals get their food and eat first. Waited an hour and a half for my order, seems the norm for tourists because the local diners and staff have great fun mocking and miming all the tourists who are angry, upset, and walk out in a huff. BTW, so when you do walk out, they just give your order to the locals. Note to the owners: You should put a sign up that says "locals only", or just make it a private restaurant. Plenty of us tourists have booked things to do and just don't have hours to spend on a breakfast meal. Not a very nice way to treat people.

AMAZING! The quality of the food, along with the quantity was absolutely amazing and plentiful. A cool little spot to go to for an apple knocker or a local. The inside was very cool looking with vintage signs, seats, tables and setup. We ordered the pancakes with toast and three breakfast sandwiches with bacon that came on a beautifully crafted english muffin. Coffee was good and had an old school diner coffee taste and feel to it. Thank you to each and every person that makes the dream work here! Whenever we come up to St Ignace or Mackinac, we'll be sure to stop in here and you should to!

2025 update: still great service a food! Lots of homemade options, old time music and a great dinner experience!! The cinnamon rolls OMG 2022: Adorable diner, complete with friendly, funny "snappy" service! I loved all 3 of the ladies running the place. Since I showed up a few minutes before closing time I just grabbed a few things "to go" and it was delicious!! The cream of mushroom soup is one of best I've ever had, and the thick hand cut french fries were excellent!! They even gave me a couple of the homemade potato chips to taste, which were excellent as well. I'm coming back soon!!
