I had the worst dining experience of my entire life here. Not only was the service slow and terrible, the food was absolutely disgusting. The first red flag was when we walked in and it took the hostess about a minute and a half to notice we were even there. Ok, whatever. Then she sat us and took our drink orders, then poured our water, spilling water all over my feet. It's ok, it's Sunday, I'm still in a good mood. We are only one of four tables in the whole restaurant. Then we wait for the server to show up and ask what we want to eat. And we wait. And we wait. At this point I'm starting to get a little annoyed. FINALLY after 15 minutes the server shows up with our bloody Mary's, and without introducing himself or apologizing for the wait asks what we want. At this point my irritation is growing. I ask for the country breakfast with eggs over hard, and he leaves. We drink our bloody Mary's which are decent and try to relax. Once more we wait for about forty minutes for our food, during which time the server NEVER showed up and NEVER took the empty glasses off the table, refilled our water, or asked if we wanted anything else. Finally after what seemed 10,000 years he shows up again with our food. Remember, there's only at this point 2 other tables in the whole restaurant. So he plops the plates down once again without taking our empty glasses, and then walks off without asking if we need anything else. Of COURSE my eggs are not cooked like I ordered. When I see him again I flag him down and tell him. He mumbles an apology and takes my plate away to replace my eggs (when I was starving and wanting to eat the other food). After a few minutes he brings it back, and guess what? The new eggs are also undercooked. At this point I'm livid. I tell him at this point I don't care and to go away. He doesn't offer an apology or to comp my meal. I resign myself to eating the bacon and potatoes but guess what? That's right, they're overcooked and awful!! Taste like charcoal. I am ready to burn the place down and I don't think there's a jury in the world that would convict me. I yell at him across the restaurant that I want the check and I don't expect to pay for my meal. The manager shows up, but instead of apologizing, she just asks if I ate the eggs! I said no, my wife did (she doesn't mind sloppy eggs). She said ok I guess I can comp your meal but that's it. Finally after 2 hours we escape from the hellhole, with no intention of ever going back. Would...
Read moreFood and service were excellent. Dining areas and tables are comfortable. Very interesting setting as a historic mansion. Would not describe the experience as super upscale, romantic or intimate, but still fine dining nonetheless, and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The quality of food is where they really shine.
Convenient, prompt and courteous $10 valet parking, highly recommend using it due to lack of nearby parking. Had a reservation for table of two on a Friday night, waited 15 minutes in crowded room with limited seating. Bar was full. Note: If stairs are an issue, request main floor table on reservation. There are 20 steps to the second level. Plenty of wait staff but the primary dedicated servers are stretched thin between tables, resulting in some waiting for things like refills and clearing dishes. Our amazing server, Gina, was magnificent, extremely personable and on point with her knowledge of the menu. Their attention is divided between many customers however, while other staff are milling about, less busy.
Sweet Pea Agnolotti divided between us as a starter, was a hit for my wife, for me it was meh. Flavors of lemon and dill with crab meat topping. The temperature inside the pasta was nice and hot with other cold ingredients as toppings. This proved to be critical to being an enjoyable dish.
Beef Wellington was superb, my only desire would have been for a bit more seasoning on the meat. Vegetables on the plate were so good they nearly out performed the Wellington.
Surf and Turf was beautiful and delicious. Shrimp and steak were both cooked to perfection.
Side dishes, Brussel Sprouts and Risotto. Sprouts were plentiful and properly grilled. A tad heavy on the saltiness for me in the balsamic or soy glazing. We didn’t care much for the taste of the Farro Risotto but that’s probably just us, it had an acquired taste. I would have enjoyed more asparagus, peas, and parmesan.
Crepe cake with coffee mouse for desert, the perfect way to wrap up the experience. This desert was 10/10 for us, perfectly balanced flavors, not too sweet and not too strong of coffee notes, we loved it.
We paid $250 for the two of us, that includes tip. No alcohol drinks on our check. We felt it was worth it and will...
Read moreI have been to minimal places in my life to experience great food and had been told about Forepaugh's since before I moved here. I was sad when I was told about the establishment being closed and that I was never going to be able to try their food, but it wasn't long after I moved here that they announced reopening. I was so excited. My boyfriend and I decided this year we were celebrating our anniversary here, and it did not disappoint. We arrived early and sat in the lounge and ordered drinks.
We started off with 2 cocktails: a Hibiscus cooler-add Tequila and a Hemingway Daiquiri- Both were refreshing and well balanced.
Once we got to the table we were greeted with our amazing server. Joseph was very informative and helpful when deciding on wine, starters and entrees as well just a nice little dining conversation.
While dining we started with is Fritto Misto- It was very light and well prepared. It has been usual when ordering seafood that it's over cooked but this was not the case. The sauce served with it was fresh and savory.
We then ordered 2 different pasta starters one was a chefs special cooked and served table side that was a 10/10 as well as the Sweet Pea Tortelloni which was the weakest part of the meal in my opinion but I think I just don't like Blue Crab.
For our Entree's I got the Petite Filet Surf and Turf and it was the best Beef Tenderloin I have ever had and cooked to perfection. Served with Shrimp and Asparagus with a lobster reduction the pairings were spot on and would order this again. My Partner had the Lamb chops also cooked to perfection with the perfect pairings. The Risotto was full of flavor and everything was plated beautifully.
I will definitely be back and would recommend everyone to go and have a dining experience here. There are no negative comments here it was a beautiful atmosphere and obviously a beautiful building eating in a part of the Minnesota history will be a memory I will never forget.
Thank you Forepaugh's and Joseph for an...
