Read moreUsed to love this place, not anymore We’ve been stopping at Shaner's for years during our visits to Pass-a-Grille, St. Pete, and Treasure Island. It was always our go-to for fresh seafood, especially grouper, and the staff used to be so friendly and welcoming and helpful.
Since the ownership change, the place looks brighter, and they’ve added a sandwich and chicken area, plus outdoor benches which are nice improvements.
But sadly, the service has gone downhill. We waited at the counter for a while before anyone noticed us. No smile, no greeting, just a cold transaction. It felt like we were bothering them.
It might seem like a small thing, but customer service matters. You can update the look and change the menu, but people come back because of how they’re treated. The food might still be fine, but the vibe is gone. Sadly, we won’t be returning.
UPDATE: And the grouper had no a fish smell ...it smell like it was out of the refrigerator for a long time...30.00...
Read moreI have been stopping there occasionally over the years and was always happy until this last most recent visit. I looked at the fish & shrimp case and saw what appeared to be peeled & deveined red shrimp so, i asked why the sign said "Red Royal Shrimp;" What ya need to know is that Red Royal Shrimp are normally sold "Peel On" for about $22 to $25 a pound because they taste like lobster as does Rock Shrimp. So, the price was $16.99 a pound which i thought was a cheap price for Royal Red and i asked; do they taste like Lobster and the salesman said yes they do and asked how many pounds do you want. Normal plain red shrimp sell for $7.99 a pound(shell-on) and $10.99 for peeled and deveined but, i did buy one pound anyway and went home to cook them up. No surprise...they did not taste like lobster. I was sold Red Shrimp for an outrageous $16.99 a pound. Good rip-off guys! You all...
