Bad Mother — Restaurant in Saint Petersburg

Bad Mother is simply a must visit if you’re looking for a coffee shop in the St. Petersburg area. Chris, Josh and the team are all so friendly and clearly passionate about providing the best experience they can for coffee lovers of all kinds. Being a pourover enthusiast myself, it was super fun to stop in on one of their “Slow Bar Sundays” and get some brewing tips from Josh, while then enjoying a couple of brilliant cups he poured from Dak Coffee Roasters. My wife, who is more of your regular coffee drinker, ordered a golden milk latte and absolutely loved it. Aside from the great drinks, the food was really good too. We ordered an NYC sesame bagel with cream cheese and a slice of quiche (potatoes, carmelized onions, provolone, etc.). What’s nice is there is plenty of space to sit and relax or get some work done. You don’t feel cramped or like you’re bothering others with the mixed layout of low tables, high tops, couches, and lounge chairs. Overall aesthetics are very cool and comfortable. Best coffee in Tampa bay.

Unfortunately, for the last two visits they have not maintained the level of quality that we were accustomed to. We've been coming here since its opening, and it used to be our favorite spot.

Today, I asked for a very lightly iced latte and received a cup filled with ice. When I mentioned that I had requested only a few ice cubes, the barista (a girl with bangs) looked at me as if I was annoying, and she didn't even apologize. She removed some of the ice from my drink, leaving me with a cup full of water and almond milk, without a hint of coffee flavor. She should’ve made a new cup of coffee instead. Very disappointing.

Bad Mother is a cool spot, but with customer service like this and the coffee being consistently mishandled by staff who can't even follow simple orders written on paper, we'll be passing on it...

I always use travel as an excuse to find great food and coffee. I knew I was in the right place when I ordered a pour over and was met with excitement and enthusiasm over their current selection of beans. We ordered one of each to share, along with some empanadas (steak & fried rice, buffalo chicken). The food was great, but the coffee… the coffee was the best I’ve ever had. The flavors coming through in the Geisha absolutely blew me away. The vibe and atmosphere of the space just adds to the experience. Service was top notch — staff is very knowledgeable and passionate, and everything is executed in a highly professional manner. This shop is elite without feeling stuffy.
