Where Flavor Lives and Kelsey Reigns Supreme
If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to eat in a dimension where Michelin stars rain from the sky like parsley flakes and culinary angels sing over every bite, then congratulations, you’ve clearly been to Bin 6 South—home of Kelsey, the undisputed heavyweight champion of chefs in St. Petersburg. No contest. Don't even bring up your cousin’s “famous” chili. Sit down.
Appetizers or Foreplay? Yes.
Let’s start with the Marinated Olives. Citrus zest, chili, rosemary, and olive oil? I don’t know if I ate them or if they whispered ancient Mediterranean secrets into my soul. I briefly considered proposing marriage to a Kalamata.
The Housemade Bread Duo is a carby miracle sent directly from the gluten gods—one side fermented garlic & honey butter; the other, squid ink sourdough with nori garlic butter. I licked the plate so thoroughly, the server thought I brought my own dishwasher.
And don’t get me started on the Bin Board. It’s four seasonal hors d’oeuvres, aka four edible love letters from Chef Kelsey. Honestly, it made me question my life choices. Why am I not a seasonal hors d’oeuvre?
Hot Appetizers? More Like Life-Changing Events
The Roasted Sunchokes made me want to call my parents and thank them for raising me with taste buds. The Farro & Mushrooms combo tasted like a creamy forest hug—rich, earthy, and suspiciously addictive. Kelsey probably has a fan club of mushrooms.
And the Dumpling Soup? It was so umami-packed, I blacked out for 37 seconds. When I came to, I had achieved inner peace.
Entrées – aka Kelsey’s Final Flex
Let’s talk about the Venison Tenderloin, which was so tender I suspect it got therapy. Paired with horseradish sweet potato puree and fermented mushroom cream sauce, it was like if a campfire had a degree in French cuisine.
The Pan Seared Scallops? They tap danced on my tongue while wearing little lemon-scented top hats. The fermented vinaigrette could convince a die-hard carnivore to hug a fennel.
Even the Gigandes Bean Cassoulet had me texting my ex just to say, “You missed out. On this. On me. On this bean cassoulet.”
Final Thoughts
Chef Kelsey is not cooking, she’s casting spells. This isn’t dinner—it’s a spiritual awakening. If you eat here and don’t feel compelled to write poetry to a parsnip or legally adopt a sunchoke, then I don’t know what to tell you. Maybe you’re just not ready.
Bin 6 South is the truth. Kelsey is the prophet. And I am now a...
Read moreMy partner and I are always looking for the best restaurants in any city. We really thought Il Ritorno was the best-of-the-best in St Pete but I’ll be damned if Bin 6 South didn’t gave them a run for their money—leaving me confused and now with two favorite restaurants in the city.
Bin 6 South isn’t a restaurant experience. It’s going to a favorite family member’s home for the holidays. The food is excellent, the wine is flowing, there is chatter among the staff and patrons as if we’ve all known each other for years! We sat at the common table with two other couples and even made a reservation to meet them back next month. When they left, we moved to the bar where I picked the Chef’s brain and the other staff members explained the passion project creating Bin 6 South was.
We ended up trying everything on the menu plus all of the featured items for the evening. It was all phenomenal. We even had to ask for more Cracklins with pimento cheese from the Bin Board, two wasn’t enough! The roasted red pepper soup was a revelation. It’s smokiness and velvety texture made me was to swim in it, tell it all my hopes and fears, my dreams, my worries. The greatest worry of all may be never again having said soup.
Because that’s the thing at Bin 6 South, the menu changes! And there are only 12 seats in the restaurant. Six at the common table and six at the bar overlooking the tiny yet warm and functional kitchen. You never know what’s going to happen, who you’ll meet, or what you’ll eat but I guarantee you’ll leave with a full tummy and a...
Read moreI recently had a reservation at Bin 6 South, and the entire experience was a complete letdown. We arrived promptly for our reservation, looking forward to an intimate, romantic dinner. Our excitement quickly turned into disappointment when we were shown to a standard table for six, meant to be shared with other four strangers. This was a typical rectangular table where we would be seated shoulder to shoulder with other patrons. The reservation indicated "common" seating, but the restaurant's description failed to clarify that this meant sitting shoulder to shoulder with strangers. At best, we may have expected to share an extra-large table, not this awkward and cramped setup. I was aware of the credit card deposit requirement when making the reservation, but what I didn't anticipate was a staggering $100 deposit. This amount is unheard of for a restaurant that clearly doesn't fit the Michelin star category. Most places I've dined at ask for reasonable deposits, typically ranging from $10 to $20 per person. If it turns out that this is written in “small print” somewhere on the booking, it doesn’t change my issues as it is unreasonable to expect someone to read all of these details when making a reservation. When we discovered the $100 charge on our bill, we initially assumed it was a mistake and reached out to the restaurant. To our astonishment, they confirmed it was intentional and adamantly refused to consider a refund or credit. This inflexibility and unwillingness to resolve our concerns left a bitter taste...
