I agree with the reviews that mention a needed renovation due to things like carpets, seats, bathrooms etc. This theater does have a lot of heart, and brings some great independent films to The North Shore. I also really loved the chalk art for each movie playing. When we saw a movie about a month ago we noticed that there was a very small hole in the screen that appeared as a white dot throughout the entire movie. The floors were sticky, and the seats felt like school bus seats. Lastly, our snack mix we bought was stale. I hope this theater, with its historical value and location are able to make some changes in the near future. But again, this location does have a great selection of films and events. If you’re a movie buff and looking to watch a movie that’s not playing anywhere else, this is the spot. Unfortunately Cinema Salem just hasn’t gotten the entire movie-going experience...
Read moreLately I've gained an interest in visiting old school/classic movie theaters. I was happy to find out there was one in Salem during my inaugural visit to the area. Admission for 2 adults was not even $20 bucks, and we also ended up getting a popcorn, drink, a beer, and a cool 'Dawn of the Dead' style t shirt, all for $60! The theater itself is clean, and the seats were surprisingly comfortable. The quality of the sound and picture was pretty good too.
Our only negative experience that wasn't even the theaters fault, was this man who was being very disruptive during the beginning of the film. Thankfully after a few "Shushes" he stopped.
Anyway, we will definitely be visiting Cinema Salem in the future sometime around October, because I heard they have cool stuff going on at the theater (along with the rest...
Read moreI had gone to the cinema with plans to buy snacks and drinks so my adult daughter and I could use the restroom. However, after chatting with the nicest older man at the door and a few other people working in the theater, we decided to stay for a movie. This was my favorite experience of my entire weekend in Salem. We ended up watching this 80s movie called Monster Squad with two of the actors from the movie giving commentary and a Q & A session with photos after. We got some fun treats and items to play with during the movie and had such a great time. I am so glad we found this gem and will be returning as often as we can for regular movies as well as special events. They really go above and beyond for their special events and I highly recommend it. The price was very...
