I'm a Salem resident and I am on a mission to tour all the local attractions. About this one:

It's located on the back of a store so you might miss it. There is usually a sign on the sidewalk pointing at the entrance of the store (see picture).

What it is: It is basically a room filled with Ouija Boards from different places and different times. There are boards everywhere: on the wall, on shelves, under glass displays... There are some signs telling about the board's history and evolution. I cannot stress this enough: this place is SMALL. You enter and then that's it.

PROs You can tell that this place was created by someone with a genuine passion for Ouija Boards and the patience of a collector. I liked how the place was furnished and loved the seance nook. Staff is very knowledgeable and when I was there the people at the ticket window would periodically come inside the museum to answer questions or explain things. Photography is allowed and the seance corner is very Instagrammable 😊(it's the type of picture your friends will expect to see on your page if you visit Salem 😊) Tickets are very inexpensive

CONs You guessed right: it's super tiny 😊 Also, I was surprised that there were very little merchandise about Ouija board available (at least when I visited) - the front of the store is basically an Harry...

My family and I were in Salem for the first time this October, and while there are many great things to do, visiting the Witch Board Museum was by far the BEST! I cannot recommend this highly enough! This isn’t just another attraction but a legitimate museum of the Ouija board. It was an absolute pleasure meeting the owner John, who is a collector, historian and treasurer of the Talking Board Historical Society. John provides a thorough history of the boards, and factual information that clarifies misinformation and dispels fears that Hollywood has created concerning the Ouija board. John encourages photos, any questions, and also shares wonderful stories about experiences with the board. It’s $10 for a tour, and though museum is relatively small, it is packed with history! John’s knowledge and enthusiasm truly makes it worth every penny and every moment of your time! The museum is located on Salem’s historic Essex street and is in the back of a Harry Potter store, so if you’re not careful it can be overlooked in all the attractions. Definitely take the time to seek it out, you won’t regret it! Also, there is a fantastic podcast interview with John on “SALAEM - The Podcast - Episode 23 - Interview: John Kozik, Owner of Witch...

I walked in here initially because we're in Salem it just seemed like one of those things to do. I wasn't walking in with great expectations since some other activities in the city are pretty "Tourist Trappy". I left with a completely different perspective and with a new great experience. We were immediately greeted by the owner who was so incredibly passionate about the history of Ouija boards. It was great seeing the fire in his eyes and the glowing in his soul when he realized that while telling us the stories of many pieces he drew genuine interest from myself and my girlfriend. We had a long and information filled conversation with him and I can't thank him enough for his time and the world of knowledge he was able to share. I highly recommend you stopping by and really asking questions. The way Oujia boards have been interpreted by the world and how it's evolved over the years can really put a lot of things into perspective. Don't...

You enter into a small shop with a mix of Harry Potter and witchy items. For a small fee, you can go into the back two rooms which have ouija boards on display on the walls and in display cases. It’s the largest collection in the world with a huge variety of antique and modern boards on display. The owner provides an oral presentation of the history of the boards and how the perception of the board has changed over the years. He was well informed and was courteous to the fact that one child was in the room. The rooms were good sized so our group of 5 fit comfortably with good lighting, temperature, no noise, and lots of room to browse. It was not rushed at all and we were encouraged to stay and look around as long as we wanted. The owner, his staff, and the 3 other adults in our group were very friendly and we had a wonderful experience. I highly recommend visiting!
