Denny's — Restaurant in Salem

I just had the craziest experience today at this location.

So the back story is that my friend and I both come here regularly. Like we come here so often that the evening staff knows us by name.

But...

We normally come in the evening so the daytime staff don't know us. So we came here, and got seated, but then we sat, and sat, and sat. No one said a word. No greeting. No water. No aknowlegement in any way.

So eventually, we flagged down another server and ordered.

The server assigned to us brought our food, and that was it. No checking on us. No refilling drinks. Nothing.

So I thought that maybe they were short staffed like a lot of restaurants are, but here's the rub. This server was excellently serving everyone around us. I did observe that everyone around us are... Not white. Then, when my friend asked for a 20% discount, they argued with her, then they grouped together in front of me and had a conversation about it in Spanish, thinking I couldn't understand. Let's just say they weren't nice.

It is unbelievable to me that they had that conversation right in front of me assuming I couldn't understand.

Not a good experience. Like it was really bad.

Shout out to Wayne the cook though. Food...

I went in and ordered steak and eggs. I ordered it rare and wheat toast with over easy eggs. The eggs and hash browns were fine but I got white toast not wheat. My steak was well done not rare and when i told the waiter about it he said I will discount your meal. So when he brought my check he said I took off 10% a whole $1.80 for completely ruining my breakfast. He said what do you say to that like it was supposed to be amazing that he did that for me. I said what an I supposed to say to that and he got defensive and ripped the check out of my hand and said we will comp your meal it's on me. I told him that's not necessary but maybe $5 of would have been a better deal since it was utterly and completely their fault. I have him $20 and told him to keep the change. He did ask me if I wanted him to make me another steak but when you wait 45 minutes for the first plate I ordered I did not want to wait. I will never be eating here again after being treated like this. Did was not very good anyway this place...

I went in with my kids and all we can talk about is the amazing service and time we had thanks to our server Ana. She welcomed us with a great attitude and had us sat right away. We felt so comfortable especially with seeing her great smile! Asked us right away what we would like to drink and since we weren’t sure she brought us water right away while we looked at the menu to decide what we wanted. Never once did we feel rushed nor pressured especially since my little one was taking a bit long to decide what she wanted Ana was extremely patient. During the whole time she was so attentive and never had to ask for anything twice. Most of the time when I thought of something I wanted like a refill or napkins there came Ana with everything we needed as if she were reading my mind! Excellent service and highly recommend eating here! You’ll have a great time not only for the food, but for the environment as well.
