Overall - Quality doesn't come close to the high prices. The waitress was nice and attentive, and that's about the only nice thing I have to say...and that's more of a reflection on her personally than the restaurant itself.
If you're going to charge $24 for a carbonara it needs to be good. It took about 45 minutes for a table of 6 to get their food. Four of the plates came out cold. The sauce at the bottom of my plate was actually congealing. Rule #1 with pasta, never serve cold, especially a carbonara. I didn't understand the pasta choice. Carbonara should come with a thicker noodle to grab the sauce. The menu said it was spaghettini which still isn't the best choice, but it looked more like capellini to me. It was very thin. The guanciale was burned and made the whole plate bitter. And the sauce was flavorless. Or maybe I couldn't taste it over the bitterness. This plate should have never left the kitchen based on the congealed sauce alone.
My partner had the lasagna (from Caffe Molise). It came out drowned and covered in a red sauce. It tasted very acidic and store bought. He ate half and decided to leave the rest. Again, quality not there. I realize this is a Caffe Molise dish but BTG is offering it so their name is on it.
5 Cheese Board - I wish this trend would end of charging $20+ for a small plate of cheeses and olives and pickles and a few pieces of essentially stale bread that have all been procured from the local Costco. Don't get me wrong, I love Costco products. But I can buy all this in bulk and have 50 servings of the same board for $50 bucks. It's just insulting.
Wine - Good selections but please give me more than 5 ounces per glass for these prices. Whiskey Street down the street offers 8 ounce pours with a better dollar/ounce ratio. BTG might have a better selection but gimme another ounce at least. This might even be foregiveable if the food was better...but it wasn't.
I hate giving bad reviews like this, but what I hate more is walking away from a restaurant having paid $110 for two people (2 entrees, 2 glasses of wine, 1 beer, and 20% tip that was automatically added so be mindful) feeling like I've just been played for a fool. If you're a true foodie, find another restaurant. This place feels like a racket. The food is uninspired, lazy, and comes off as...
Read moreWow, so many 5 star reviews! Good ol' easily impressed Salt Lakers, strike again. Food is average at best. Any decent home cook with some Italian culinary knowledge could equal or likely exceed it. I know my family could put their cooks to shame if we were cooking in our sleep.
Very clumsy and amateurish servers. The server grabbed plates without asking if we were done - had to stop them from prematurely removing our plates. Staff seemed to be in an incredible rush to get off work. "Reminded" us at 8pm that the kitchen closed at 9pm. Uh, yeah, your point? Does the space-time continuum work differently here in the land of average food and absurdly priced pedestrian wine?
The server got cork and wax in the $100 bottle of wine. Learn your trade at a chain restaurant first, please. The wine list for a wine bar shows little forethought and no special expertise. The only thing they know about wine is that they can get away with marking it up by about 500%. Olive Garden quality with New York prices.
The servers wouldn't know what wine to pair with what dish if their lives depended on it. I don't mind dropping $100 or more on a bottle but it better be good to excellent and this was not even close. I was going to send it back but foolishly gave them a break (out of deference to my shy dining party) and accepted their $15 quality wine while paying $130 for it, once you include tax and tip. Cocktails were poorly crafted too.
The interior wasn't terrible. Music selection seemed like what a 16 year-old using AI would pick.
I guess if you don't travel or go out much, this might be a good place to burn $150 - 250, given the basic level of dining Salt Lakers are satisfied with. Honestly you'd be as happy at any basic restaurant and be $100+ richer. Save your money and find a real restaurant. Definitely not worth the effort. I regret the...
Read moreThe Bestie and I headed Downtown to eat dinner at BTG Wine Bar. This is one of my favorite spots because in addition to their menu you can order from the Caffe Molise menu from upstairs. Best of both worlds. 🙌

•I LOVED the Summer Rain cocktail, so refreshing for the warmer weather. •The Raspberry Moscato Fizz was also yummy just more liquor forward. •The Marinara was sooo good and the Foccacia had a great crunch with a soft pillowy center. •The Prosciutto Dates and Italian Meatballs were both great starters that definitely kept us munching until our entrees arrived. •Both of our Entrees came with salad with was lightly dressed in their house vinegarette and topped with cheese! •I Really Really Enjoyed my Ravioli con Zucca. Tender pasta, great filling and the balsamic drizzle over the brown butter sauce was perfection. •The Bestie thought her Pappardelle al Sugo was MOST Delicious, especially the sauce!
BTG Wine Bar is such great spot for yummy drinks and...
