Edit: So, GM got in touch with me and apologized. As well as sent me a gift card. It’s been awhile since, I could get to SLC for a dinner date due to distance and Covid hitting. However, I was able to go tonight.
We did try to go to a different location because I thought that it may be too busy to go to downtown SLC on a holiday weekend. But, the South Jordan location couldn’t take a gift card. They said the system was down. And, they are getting rid of their old gift cards, while transitioning to a new system. So, we left that location, braved going into the city, and went downtown. I’m glad we did.
Our server was extremely attentive. Almost to attentive at times. It was slower. He was bored, I think. Either way the food was delicious! I had crab cakes again. And even got the mash potatoes this time!!! Husband tried the prime rib. He loved it.
I will definitely keep coming back to Market Street. And, so stay loyal to the Downtown location. Thank you for acknowledging my concerns. Thank you for encouraging us to return.
Original review: We went there for our anniversary at around 4:30 pm. We got sat quickly, as we were one of two tables there at the time. We sat for approximately 10 minutes before we saw a server. Server 1: brought us water and took our appetizer order. Server 2: brought the appetizer out to us. The calamari was delicious. Server 2: came to check on us after we consumed about half the appetizer and asked how everything was and if we needed anything. I said, yes, for someone to take our order. Server 2: looked dumb founded, like Server 1, didn’t take it? We ordered our meals. Ahi Tuna & Crab Cakes, both with clam chowder and mashed potatoes. Soup came out quickly, and delicious. We waited about 15 minutes before Server 2 came over and advised us that “the kitchen is having a mashed potato crisis”. It would be another 5 minutes for our meal to come out. Okay, whatever. 6 minutes later, Server 2 came out and said it will be another 30 minutes, unless we order a different starch. Needles to say, we ordered a different starch. We waited again for approximately, 15 min. The food was delicious. But, I’m surprised the manager didn’t come out to apologize. We were charged for the full bill even.
This is a matter of maybe I’ll go back. But not...
Read moreI was very disappointed in this visit to Market Street Grill which is sad because I have had much better experiences in the past. I have always thought of Market Street Grill as one of the best steak and seafood restaurants in Utah but now that image has definitely changed. You would expect that any higher end steakhouse would know how to properly cook a steak. I ordered my steak medium rare and it came out well done. I understand this happens from time to time. I mentioned it to the waiter and he took my steak back and had it remade so after waiting another 10 to 15 minutes he brought the new steak out and I cut into it and it was very rare to the point I could not eat it. It had been seared but was definitely not cooked medium rare. I was able to eat a few of the pieces off the edge but the rest was not edible. I was also disappointed with the oscar style as both steaks were completely smothered in hollandaise sauce. I cut into the second steak with my waiter still standing there, and he saw how right was and he just kind of shrugged his shoulders. He came back five minutes later, and I told him how thoroughly disappointed I was and I again showed him how rare it was throughout and that I wasn’t going to be able to eat it. He didn’t even offer to do anything about it the second time, but I didn’t wanna bother getting it re-cooked again because we’d already been there for an hour. I really expected a manager to come over or to at least get a discount or have the steak taken off. I should have demanded to have it removed from my check but I didn’t want to raise a big scene because my wife and I were enjoying a nice date night and had just come from a broadway show. to top things off it was about 80° and stifling hot in that restaurant and I wanted to get out of there. To be fair my wife’s steak was cooked right and her king crab leg was really good. But overall I was incredibly disappointed and don’t think I’ll ever go to this location again. I was very disappointed in my food, I was disappointed with my waiter, and I was disappointed with the uncomfortable heat in the restaurant. Next time I’ll stick with Ruth’s Chris...
Read moreIt wasn't until this restaurant that I learned bad service can ruin a decent meal. Usually I try to just ignore it and have a good time. But when you're literally being held hostage by the check, you know things have gone sour. Up until the end the service was... okay. Slow, but we weren't in a rush either, at first. Definitely no where near the quality you'd expect for the price, but no big deal. Very slow on taking drinks/orders, brought the wrong thing but couldn't correct until the waiter was available 20 minutes later. But honestly not a big deal. When the main meal was finally brought out we ordered drinks. Then... didn't see our waiter for nearly an hour. I'm not exaggerating. We were done relatively quickly, no big deal, but no drinks came and more importantly no waiter with the check. It took us waving down another waiter, then waving him down again, just to get our waiters attention. They asked who our waiter was then said point-blank "oh he sucks." Funny I guess? Or serious? Seemed like a joke then but now in hindsight... Finally our waiter showed up, acted surprised that "they" didn't bring our drinks, though no one else was serving us but him. No apology for the 50+ minutes of waiting. Finally brought the check a few minutes later and though we all had card in hand and obvious frustration, left the checks for another 10 minutes. Just to really rub it in I guess that we were paying several hundred for garbage service and mid food.
Could we have been more aggressive? Seems so. Waiving down a few other waiters we thought was plenty aggressive but I guess not here. But frankly we just wanted to get out of there, rather than embroiling ourselves in a terse conversation with a manager.
What is certain is that you'll have better food, experience, and service at a fraction of the price at a local pub, if that's your vibe. I know that, because I was so hesitant to travel to SLC again after this experience, but I'm glad I did. It's hard to entirely judge one restaurant on one bad experience, but as this is my second meh to bad visit to a Market Street Grill, I can confident suggest you...
