Club Karamba — Restaurant in Salt Lake City

This was one of the worst places I have ever been in my entire life, I have never written a review before but my experience here was so terrible, that I feel I need to warn the general public.

I recently visited Club Karamba when visiting my sister in the area. We had high hopes for a night of fun with friends, but unfortunately what was meant to be an exciting evening turned into one of the worst nightlife experiences of my life.

First, the music was absolutely deafening. While I understand a club is expected to be loud and lively, the sound system here was so overwhelming that my ears were ringing for two weeks afterward. I'm not exaggerating, it was genuinely painful and I cannot imagine how the staff and nearby residents could possibly sleep through the night given the excessive noise levels pouring out into the surrounding area. It's irresponsible and inconsiderate.

The problems didn't end with the noise. The bar staff was abysmal. We stood at the bar for an extended period of time trying to get the staff's attention, who were either disinterested in us or actively ignoring us. Shockingly, a member of our group who is a little person was consistently ignored, and its hard not believe their height was a factor of the staff's blatant disregard. When we finally managed to order our drinks, two of our drinks never arrived, despite showing on the receipt. When I brought this to the attention of the manager, I was accused of lying and rather than solving the issue, we were told to leave the bar area. I will be filing a dispute with my credit card company. The who situation was offensive and handled with an appalling lack of professionalism.

Don't get me started on the bathrooms. They were truly disgusting, to a degree I've never experienced in any public setting. The floors were sticky, slippery, and littered with used paper towels and unidentifiable grime. There was no toilet paper in most of the stalls and absolutely no soap available, not even an empty dispenser. Hygiene is clearly not a priority for Club Karamba, which is deeply concerning given the amount of people that probably come through here on a busy night. To make matters worse, insects were crawling around the sinks and floor, and the stench was overpowering, making my eyes water. It was more like a demented gas station restroom facility than a supposedly reputable nightlife venue.

The overall atmosphere of the bar was also extremely uncomfortable, stuffy and humid. It seems to attract a very "unique" crowd, and not in the charming way. Other patrons were overly touchy, intrusive, and sometimes aggressive. They did not respect personal space and were persistent the entire night. This, combined with the chaos at the bar and hostile attitude of the staff, made the entire environment feel unsafe and unwelcoming.

Between the dangerously loud music, rude and dismissive staff, unsanitary conditions, and the general sense of disorder and disrespect towards customers, this place is prime example in how not to run a nightlife establishment and I would not recommend this place to anyone. I would hope you steer far clear. I would however, recommend that this place be investigated by the EPA for violating the Noise Control Act from the obscene amount of noise coming...

This place could be nice but... there are a lot of things that need to be corrected! To start this long story (sorry) we went with some friends that reserved a table and they placed us at the wrong table which actually worked out better that they moved us because the first table had us inches from a main speaker which was so loud it hurt to be next to (I love loud music and clubs, but this was way too close). Next our waitress was completely incompetent, she didn't or wouldn't speak English which I understand it's a Latin club but, I would imagine staff should be able to accommodate both languages? She didn't know what a screwdriver was, couldn't get my drink right (Crown apple/sprite), instead she brought me a blended whiskey with Redbull, on average it took approximately 30-45 minutes to get a drink from our "dedicated waitress". We ordered a bottle for our friend thinking at least we could drink at our leisure instead of having to wait each time, and it took over an hour for her to bring it to the table which she brought the wrong mixers/chasers, did not bring cups for the chasers or mixers, and just kept telling us yeah, the chasers and cups are coming when we would ask about them so long to the point we went and grabbed our own cups! One of the biggest concerns I had was the table we were placed at is on an elevated platform about 3-4 feet higher than the main floor with the main floor surrounding three sides of it, there was NO railing around the edges of the platform or stairs to keep people from falling off, just red velvet theater style ropes/mobile posts and only around the platform nothing on the stairs which a huge safety concern since drunk people stumble and have a hard time with balance! This huge safety risk was apparent when a friend that was drinking fell down the stairs trying to go to the restroom, and she lost balance dancing and had to be caught from falling off the edge! I'm pretty sure that railing is a code requirement for elevated surfaces but maybe I'm wrong. (luckily another person and I were DD's, so we were able to watch for this risk and keep others safe). The music is so loud that the speakers crack and the songs don't sound right, the amount of security with guns in the place makes you feel uncomfortable, the one benefit that the place has which is kind of a pro and con is the bass is so strong you can feel it through your body but it's also so strong that it shakes the drinks off of the tables! Also, apparently this place is on a fraud watch list with banks because multiple people paying for their drinks had their charges declined and cards blocked for safety! When I called my bank on Monday and, they advised me they are on a national fraud list due to so many fraudulent charges stemming from this particular club so be careful with what purchases are processed after going there! We paid online before we came and we were so excited to go to the event tonight. We paid 5 tickets, which was $56 and they wouldn’t give us wrist bands. They said “they didn’t have us in their system” when we bought the tickets right before and had proof in the bank account and everything. They should have just said that their system was down… We finally were able to come in and they had us pay $20 a shot. We thought that was crazy. We later found out from the manager that it is about $12 for a shot. When we said something about it they wouldn’t answer the question and tried to “cut us off” when we had only had the one $20 shot. They kept trying to switch the subject and avoid us. They ripped us off and it was very disappointing that they couldn’t even help us out for the trouble we went through.
