Chester's Hamburgers — Restaurant in San Antonio

We saw a new sign at the Chester‘s in San Antonio around the Broadway area today when we went to eat there. It seems we’re not the only one who thinks Chester has the best burgers, it was voted best in the San Antonio area and the country! We have been eating at Chester‘s for over 20 years. There are several things we eat on a regular basis, of course the cheeseburgers, the grilled cheese sandwiches and the jalapeños with pimento spread. But we have eaten their salads, their green chili cheese burgers, their hotdogs, and their onion rings and french fries. I can’t say I ever recall having any thing that didn’t taste great at any of the Chester‘s! My daughter has evolved from grilled cheese sandwiches to cheeseburgers, so now she’s a Chester‘s fan as well. If you plan on going to Chester‘s, just know that there will be a line but that it moves pretty quickly. You will place your order at the counter and pay, they will give you your drinks, then you will find a table. They also have an ice cream machine for shakes and malts. I don’t drink beer, but they do have a wide variety of bottled and beer in cans. When I say wide variety, I mean more than 50! The atmosphere is laid-back, and comfortable. They do have sports showing on TVs around the restaurant. Even though we live in New Braunfels, Texas, we will drive about 30-40 minutes to UC or San Antonio to eat at Chester’s quite often. Visiting from Knoxville, TN and it was late on a Saturday. By late I mean after 9 PM. The staff was helpful and friendly. It's counter order and they directed me toward a local favorite a bacon cheeseburger. I went for the double and fries. (Onion rings were not available...next time)

Atmosphere, it is counter order. TVs are on but no sound. The kitsch screamed local and the stained glass hanging around just made for some great charm. You can see the griddle and fryer and it was an open concept kitchen before that was a trend. So it hits on all fronts for me at least.

The food...ahh the food. The fries were good. Fresh cut matters and they were good. I bet they make really good chili cheese fries. Let's talk about the burger. That poppy seed bun. The lettuce, tomato, onion, mustard, mayo and pickles just hits right. The burger was juicy and flavorful. The bacon was perfect. It was crisp and ever present at every bite. This was not just a bacon cheeseburger. It was the bacon cheeseburger that you imagine, but is never realized. It was one of the best Bacon Cheeseburgers I have ever had.

Think five guys, but add a sixth guy and that guy was Chester, and Chester makes a...

I wish I could give minus stars.

Worst experience ever at this location (off 410)! THEY didn't count the correct amount of fries given to me and shorted me one. I went back to get the missing fries order and instead of them admitting the mistake I was confronted with "the blame game"! They urged with me that they gave me this and that instead of JUST TAKING CARE OF THE CUSTOMER, I spent $160 that night on one order and there gonna drill me about a $3.00 item........ really?!?!?

The manager that night was not helpful at all as a matter of fact HE was the one that was giving me all the flack! At the end of the day whatever happen with the "THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT", it's sad that a independent restaurant like this would treat a customer like this. Anyways I really don't expect Chester's to change anything with this post but this it for that potential customer whom cares about how they are treated.

P.S. I didn't even mention how the tables were dirty as we got there and how they started slamming tables at 10:05pm. Yes they close at 10pm but we we're still eating and they come "loudly" slamming up all the chairs around us....... another words...
