Finally visited this place and was extremely disappointed. Operationally this place doesn’t make sense, you wait in a line outside, once you finally get in, a bartender asks if you want a drink, but you can’t order any drinks other than alcohol, including water. We declined alcoholic drinks at first and continued to wait in this line to order, then the bartender came around to tell us and people behind us, that if we ordered a drink from her then she’d give us a table number and he could “sneakily” cut the line and we’d be able to get a table before the people in front of us. There’s signs everywhere that say you can’t sit down before you get a number. We still declined, but many others behind all ordered alcohol, so she gave them numbers for their tables and many sat down at tables even though they were far behind in line. Then the employee cleaning tables was having a hard time telling these people they needed to wait their turn and let people ahead of them who have ordered to have a table first, she went to the bartender to tell her to stop telling guests that and the bartender lied to her and said she wasn’t telling them they could get a table! I really believe the bartender was telling us this so they’d get more alcohol sales honestly. It was just a mess, and to be waiting for an hour in line for people behind us to sit down already was really irritating. When we finally ordered, they had two women working 1 register, no wonder the line was so slow! Prices were normal, but $11 for 2 Mexican cokes is crazy. $5.99 for barely any chicken is crazy too. The water they provide tastes really off and even smelled, and the food was not what we expected it to taste like. After we looked at the receipt, we were charged an admin fee and then a delivery fee?? Not sure what that’s about. They need to better organize this place, get another register, and hire honest employees. I’m not one to complain and will give places multiple chances even if I have a bad experience the first time, but this place was a real...
Read moreOk, where do I begin? So, this morning my husband and I were in search of where to have breakfast and we found this place. We are not locals, we were just passing through and needed a place to eat. Well, we should’ve skipped this one, but we didn’t. The line when we walked in was very long. Obviously when you see a line like that, you figure it must be that good. The line takes a while to move and it’s a long while before it’s your turn, but once you’re there, they give you a number to pick your table. The food wasn’t bad per se . I wouldn’t say it’s outstanding neither or it’s something out of this world. I normally don’t mind paying well if the food is great and worth it, but this place is way too expensive for what it is. Let’s not forget it’s just breakfast. They really get clever with the way they charge. So, your base chilaquiles plate is $14, plus a carne asada add on is a whooping $9 extra ( small portion) It only comes with one egg and if you want two, you pay $3 more. On top of that drinks are expensive and if you ask for a drink with low ice there’s an extra $2 dollar charge on top. Their pancakes are a whooping $14 for pancakes alone and they were not good. So think about this: an American breakfast there with two eggs, hash browns, bacon and toast is 14.49. Plus add the $14 for the pancakes. For a basic breakfast you’re already at $30 a plate. Oh, I almost forgot. There’s an automatic “ admin fee “ for who knows what. They never come to the table other than to bring your order and you already gave them the tip at the register too. For two we payed $100. For that amount I could’ve gone to a stake house. That much for just tortillas, beens and eggs. I really think not many come here twice. I think their popularity keeps new people coming, but I bet most feel the same I do about it. Would I come again? Nope! Never! They can keep their “wanna be fancy...
Read moreFrom the moment we arrived at Chilaquiles Un Buen Día, we were welcomed with warmth and hospitality. While in the parking lot, one of the employees—who was either taking out the trash or checking on something—greeted us and invited us inside.
Upon entering, we were immediately drawn to the picturesque decor, adorned with cool artwork and a charming ambiance. As we approached the register to place our order, a gentleman kindly offered us a sample of freshly brewed café de olla. The flavors were as authentic as it gets—the cinnamon, piloncillo, and anise were perfectly balanced, making for a rich and aromatic experience.
Since it was our first time visiting, we took a moment to decide on our meals while enjoying the café de olla. I ordered the green chilaquiles with two over-medium eggs, while my wife opted for the American breakfast. When my plate arrived, the presentation was stunning—beautifully garnished with pickled red onions and perfectly sliced avocado sprinkled with a touch of salt. The green sauce had just the right amount of kick and a fresh tang from the cilantro, tying all the flavors together seamlessly. The eggs and black beans completed the meal, making it hearty and satisfying.
What truly sets Chilaquiles Un Buen Día apart from the countless restaurants in San Antonio is its authenticity. This is not a Tex-Mex spot or a place for migas (nothing against either), but rather a restaurant that delivers an exceptional and traditional take on chilaquiles. The prices are reasonable, especially considering the quality of fresh ingredients and the cost of running a business in the Pearl area.
Overall, my experience was a 10/10—the food, customer service, and atmosphere were all outstanding. If you’re looking for an authentic and delicious breakfast, this place is...
