This isn’t a review for Denny’s itself but more so for the EXCELLENT customer service experience we received from Juan!
In a time where a lot of my reviews have been about poor customer service since the pandemic, it is refreshing to finally get such attentive, warm and caring customer service.
When we walked in, we were greeted with smiling faces and “Welcomes” by everyone. From that I felt like we were going to get good service. I know the servers take turns taking customers except in the event that they are requested specifically by name, and they attempted to do that however my mother had just been released from the hospital after a week long stay from a stroke, so she wanted to sit in a booth by a window with a full view so that placed us in Juan’s section. He was very gracious and accommodating. The moment we sat down, he turned all of his attention to us, and his beautiful charm just naturally flowed.
Here is where it falls into the realm of EXCELLENT service. When we gave him our order, he made sure we were getting the most bang for our buck by suggesting ways to order that would save us money! That in itself was mind blowing. Then the food came out very fast and my meal and my mother’s was cooked to perfection but my aunt asked to have her hash browns cooked a little more crispy. Juan took them back with a smile. He did everything with a smile. At that point my aunt pulled out her last $6 dollars and said to me, “I want to put this toward his tip”. 🥰
Idk if it’s just me but there are some people you can feel their smile and even hear their smile even when you can’t see them… That’s how it was with Juan… even when I wasn’t looking at him but listening to him speak, I could hear the smile in his voice. His tone was so soft and genuine. We engaged in brief personal conversation about my mother’s stroke, and that was the only time he didn’t smile, but it was replaced with a look of concern and compassion. When we were leaving, he took my mom by the arm and walked her slowly to the door, matching her slow wobbly steps and exchanging some last pleasantries with just her, he held the door open for us and sent us off with well wishes for a speedy recovery for my mom.
After it was all said and done, I feel like we left a very generous tip but we discussed it in the car saying that he deserved much more because he made my mom smile the whole time, so much so that you couldn’t tell that the right side of her face has dropped a little from the stroke. I was supposed to only pay for adding a side salad to my dinner and then they tried to charge me regular full price for a salad. Let me start off by saying we were going to go to the downtown Denny's but that Denny's is not that great so we wanted to try a different Denny's to hopefully get better service. But that turned out to be a mistake. First off it seems like the waitress really didn't want to be there at her job. And then I ordered a steak medium rare it comes out well done. And I know someone's going to say you went to Denny's in order to steak. At least they can get the medium rare right. And then my girl had to wait for her A's and bacon to come with her breakfast and when it came there was blood on the plate. So they took it back and remake the food but when they bring the food back it's supposed to have two bacon and two sausage they only brought one bacon and one sausage so they brought back less. So then I mention this to the waitress and they just bring me a bunch of bacon. I like bacon but........ And the conversation between the waitress and the cook was not that great I don't highly recommend they continue conversations like that when there are customers in the store. Especially when customers stop the waitress to talk to her about it. This is a place of business and people come to eat these are conversations that should not even happen in the workplace. Read more3 Stars because the food is good, but 2-1 Stars for customer service. Been here a handful of times. Half the time perfect when I order my stuff online and their online website made sense, but recently been having to order by calling because their website doesn't have the options they use to. First time they messed up I called had my kid in my vehicle with me. When I placed the other I made sure I told them I wasn't getting out of my car because the only reason I wasn't ordering online was because their website was down. The person over the phone said that's fine they will figure it out when u get there. When I got their I told them I'm here to pick up my order. They said we'll it's not paid for so you have to come inside. I told them I am not coming inside because I have my kid. Instead of just coming out and getting payment from me they said and I quote "well I can't help you". So not only did I wait forever I waited for nothing. Second time I called placed and order specifically asked for chocolate chip pancakes because again it wasn't showing online. The guy repeated to me 2 times yes chocolate chip pancakes. And guess what when I got there they had regular pancakes with added bananas which is so far off of what I order. So here I am annoyed, hungry, and waiting for them to remake them. Also, instead of just providing good customer service and admitting to them messing up the order the lady questions me well are you sure.
