Sabores Cali-Baja Mexican Grill — Restaurant in San Antonio

While traveling for work, I like to try the cuisine that particular city is known for. For example, San Antonio is known for a plethora of different types of food, but it has been said that SA is the leader of Tex-Mex. So, while looking for Tex-Mex places, my sister came across a Cali-Mex place called Sabores Cali-Baja Mexican Grill and said I should check them out and review it. It is also SA's top 25 most popular restaurants on Yelp, so I had to see what the hype was about.

The Buritto: 🌯🌯🌯🌯

I go to the new Surf & Turf Buritto, which, of course, is the shrimp and steak. The burrito was damn good, I tasted more shrimp than steak, but I was ok with that. The tortilla was soft, buttery, and a little flaky. Again, this was good but not as good as the Quesabirrias Tacos.......

The Taco: 🌮🌮🌮🌮

Dang, these is good!! Yall, sometimes Birrias Tacos can be a hit or miss, but these were definitely a hit! A hit right on the head! 🤤🤤. They were very hot, the shredded beef packed flavor, and the cheese was amazing! I also dipped my taco into the sauce, but honestly, the side sauce wasn't needed, but tasty and fun dunking the hell out of my taco into it.

To wrap up, the food is good, friendly staff, and very reasonable priced. I see why this was voted a popular restaurant, so please put Sabores on your San Antonio must try list....I will for sure return because they have these enchiladas with a green sauce I must try!

Why?! Why did it take me so long to try this place?!

I’ve lived around the corner from here and have driven by countless times swaying “hmm, I want to try that place”. FINALLY, we decided to stop by one evening, and OMG, I didn’t know what we’ve been missing out on!

It’s comfortable inside, not big but not tiny either. It’s very beach themed, so there’s a very island vibe to it. You walk up and order your food and then they bring it to your table.

I got the surf and turf burrito and it was fat with big pieces of shrimp and steak in it. The flavors were awesome 🤤 they don’t skimp on ingredients and everything worked well together. We also got the asada nachos which was a huge serving and also hit all the right flavor points. My son got chicken nuggets with chips and a churro, and my wife got fish tacos. Oh yeah! I also got the elotes, and let me tell you… yes. Just yes. I’ve been getting it from some other restaurants lately and have been disappointed, but this was perfect.

Everything was fresh, delicious, and generously portioned. They had a really nice salsa bar also. Overall, I didnt have high or low expectations, but it certainly exceeded anything I thought. Go here. When you have time, whether it’s lunch, dinner, you need to pay this place a visit. Fresh ingredients and food, nice staff, just a fantastic experience.
