Ruby's Diner — Restaurant in San Clemente

An"Americana" type sit down diner. Notwithstanding the shortage in staffing and supply chain issues, this once friendly and fun spot has been hit and miss in the food prep area. The flavor and presentation could use attention. Our party of 6 ordered 3 different types of burgers. I ordered the original burger and it was prepared to my liking yet it was flavorless, including the lettuce and tomato. The shoestring-esque fries were crispy outside and tender inside, nicely salted, and non-greasy. One of my companions had the kids hotdog and was served plain, the sausage was split down the middle and super hotdoggy in flavor. The hotdog flavor was overwhelming even after dressing it up with ketchup & mustard. The outdoor seating is great and generally packed. Their peak hours are long along with an equally long wait. Slowly working my way through the menu in hopes of finding the dish they excel at and so far, no luck. The restrooms need attention on a regular basis and in consideration of how busy this place gets, having sufficient staff to double team tables and bus in proper timing would help bring this place back to its pre-pandemic fun & friendly status. Rubsy.dinner is my absolute favorite spot, a hidden gem that never fails to impress. The moment I step through the door, I am enveloped in a warm and inviting atmosphere that sets the stage for a delightful dining experience. The highlight of my visits is undoubtedly the turkey burgers, which are consistently juicy and bursting with flavor. Each bite reveals a perfect blend of seasonings that elevates the dish beyond the ordinary, making it a standout choice on the menu.

Paired with their crispy fries, the turkey burger creates a perfect combination that satisfies my cravings in the most delightful way. The fries are golden brown and perfectly seasoned, providing a satisfying crunch that complements the tender burger. Together, they form a meal that is not only delicious but also incredibly fulfilling.

To top it all off, their shakes are simply irresistible. Each sip offers a delightful sweetness that perfectly balances the savory elements of the meal, creating a harmonious dining experience. Whether I opt for classic chocolate or a more adventurous flavor, the shakes are always a highlight, leaving me with a smile on my face.

Always a welcoming & flexible spot for my large pup & I to meet up with my family for an extended Lunch Visit (I drive up from San Diego, my Dad drives down from Pasadena and picks up my mom in Mission Viejo en route, then my sis brings her kids from Rancho Santa Margarita)!! A great time is had by ALL- even my sweet/patient pup who does his best to enjoy the baggy full of meaty/jerky treats I bring him, despite his obvious ability to smell burgers all around him!! Even throughout Covid-Craziness, this Ruby's has been SO good to us, keeping their outdoor seating as plentiful as possible, and never pressuring us to finish our food or clear the table as we continue to visit and make multiple restroom trips (of varying pairs) while we slooooowly wrap up our final sips of scrumptious shakes!! I often find myself CRAVING their hamburger w/ sweet potato fries between these family gatherings, and I look forward to their butterfinger (and other plethora of) creative & mouthwatering ice cream milkshakes 😋 (the toughest part is narrowing the choices down to only one per visit!!)
