So I totally fell in love with most of the bars we visited on our recent four-day weekend in San Diego, but this was one of my favorites. We spent an afternoon paddle-boarding and then tanning on the beach before walking over to AZ.
Our group of six had trouble finding a spot sitting together as the Seattle-Denver game finished on every screen in the packed bar. Thankfully most of the bodies cleared out after the game and we had prime real estate at a table near the bar in the back corner. Service was awesome! From the bouncer, to our waitress, to the bartender that joined our group for a quick drink after his shift. Everyone was so friendly! (We had lots of people help us, but the receipt says Kim K., so she gets extra kudos)
We drank a few pitcher of beer and several mixed drinks. (Hey, it was vacation and we weren't driving!) Coors Lite pitchers were only $6.50, Lagunitas $9.50, and our well-vodka mixes were $3 each. Yes, this magical place of cheap drinks on a Sunday really does exist. And for the frosting... they had tacos on their happy hour menu. Pork sliders $3, happy hour fried sampler $3 (with awesome fried jalapenos, onions, cheese, and more!) and tacos for me. Yep, only $3! Our hungry table enjoyed all the plates - taco shells were fresh and the carnitas filling was great too! I'd definitely order them again.
Lots of TVs here and a couple pool tables too. We didn't play though, and instead continued our adventures elsewhere as the sun began to set and the Uber driver appeared to take us closer to home. But we'll be back! I definitely look forward to stopping back in here on my next San...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I decided on a little Ocean Beach pub crawl after a day of surfing. The plan was to grab a pint and an appetizer from a few different places, as we couldn't decide on just one.
Our first stop was the Arizona Cafe. We walked in and found the majority of the patrons gathered around the bar, so we decided to grab a table close by to prevent the staff from having to walk across the bar every time we needed something. We sat at the table for about 20 minutes without acknowledgement from any of the staff. During this time a handful of (presumably) regulars came in and were greeted by the bartender. At this point we weren't sure if we'd wandered into a locals bar, or broken some unwritten bar rule we're not aware of. Shortly after this we were approached by a member of the staff who asked for our IDs, let us know that they did not accept international IDs (Canada), and asked us to leave.
While obviously a little disappointed, this gave us an opportunity to try out the many other fantastic pubs/restaurants in Ocean Beach that were glad to have us.
TLDR: Bad experience. Hopefully we just caught them...
Read moreLiterally met the rudest bartender ever. The atmosphere of the place looked chill but I was accompanying my friends to check for their lost credit card at this bar and the guy asked me for my ID which I replied to âoh sorry Iâm not drinkingâ bc Iâm DD. He told me to wait outside so I did. Whatever I didnât make a fuss. My friends and I went to another karaoke bar, I still wasnât drinking but I had shown my ID to the security and they let me in. Same bartender comes up to my face aggressively asking for my ID. I got anxious and told him I had my Digital ID and he told us we had to leave this other bar even though he wasnât the bouncer?? We werenât being loud of obnoxious, Iâm 25 and Iâm DD so Iâm not drinking but to get kicked out by someone who wasnât even working there was insane. Will probably never come back to this establishment with such a...
