Read moreFirst of, I've been coming here for YEARS and even after I have moved to LA, I come here EVERYTIME I'm in La Jolla. I went there for brunch and I had a terrible experience. They brought out bread after I asked for it and it was hard and cold. I always get the same dish because it's that good and it was good when I went the last time as well. However, the problem was that the hostess had this large and furry dog that she kept under the outside tables. I love dogs and have no problem with them, but she brought out the dog in the middle of the tiny restaurant and had him do some tricks which again was very cute, however once the dog started moving or shaking, all the dog hair flew into my food because the place is by the beach and it's breezy. At first, I thought that the dog belonged to a customer so of course I didn't say anything, but once I realized that the hostess had the nerve to bring this huge dog to work and do tricks in the middle of a very busy afternoon, I mentioned to her that there was dog hair in my food. She didn't say anything or offer any kind of apology about it. I was afraid to tell our waitress anything in case the new plate she brings out had food that's been spat on since they all seemed okay with this big dog being in the way of running the business. Again, I'm very dog-friendly and I think a dog is like your own baby, but just like I wouldn't want to eat my child's hair, I wouldn't want dog hair in my food either. It's sad to say that this is the last time I'll be coming here and I used to bring groups of people here for brunch all the time. It's tricky becuase everyone, including the waitresses are petting the dog and I don't blame them because the dog is cute but I don't think it's professional to do so in this environment and then touch people's food with dog hair on thier hands. Very...
Read moreI've been wanting to go to Cody's for months, but Yelp warned about long wait times and I tend to sleep in on the weekends. But on the 4th of July, my husband and I decided we'd check it out. We got there at about 9:15 and were seated immediately. The hostess gave us our pick of the remaining tables, which I appreciated. We had a very nice ocean view and our server was prompt in coming over. We started with freshly squeezed juice, orange for husband and grapefruit for me. Wow, it tasted so fresh, and I couldn't get over the flavor of my grapefruit juice. So good. We ordered, French toast for me and an omlette for my husband. Mine was so good, with great presentation and amazing mascarpone honey butter. I was disappointed that the syrup wasn't real maple syrup for the price of the dish, though. Why would I want a tub of high fructose corn syrup? I left that off and consumed liberal quantities of butter. I regret nothing. My husband's omlette looked incredible, with smooth guacamole on top and potatoes. But he was disappointed by how small the omlette was and how they made it look much bigger by propping it on the potatoes. Also, the delicious looking guac? A bust--he said it needed salt, so I tried it, and it needed more than salt. It had a weird metallic taste to it that wasn't disguised even after adding salt. I couldn't tell if it was a preservative or what. The potatoes were also just okay; they should have been cooked longer but with more oil as they were dry and a bit hard. So although the omlette itself was great, there wasn't much of it, and the supporting roles were not good. The atmosphere was good; rock music playing over vertical succulent gardens made for a cool, casual spot with a great view. We will probably come back at some point to see if my husband can find something he likes better, but it was a bit...
