Good bar — Restaurant in San Diego

The Not So Good Bar Had a HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE here this week. We ordered the House Burger and a Cheesesteak to go then drove over to OB/the beach a couple of miles away. The cook, who also took our order, was awesome, very nice & helpful. Unfortunately, once we got to the beach and I bit into the burger I realized it was way undercooked, at best rare, and was literally cold in the middle. Eating burger meat at this degree of doneness is unsafe so we opted not to eat it. We split the cheesesteak which was extremely mediocre. We came back to the establishment & I was told needed to speak with Jason the night manager behind the bar. I explained the situation and asked for a refund for the burger. He got a knife and, in a dimly lit bar, started to pry it open. He then decided it was cooked enough & that there would be no refund. I explained the situation again & he randomly asked out loudly if I went home and cooked it then brought back in. He followed that w/ the statement that if they reimbursed everyone unsatisfied w/ their meal they wouldn’t be in business. I stated my case again. At this point he was getting combative, loud, disrespectful & aggressive. He reiterated it was cooked enough and that if I was unhappy w/ the meal that would be a different story. I then said, yes, I was unhappy w/ the meal, at which point he yelled again & asked why would I come back and lie about the burger being uncooked enough. I asked if he was now calling me a liar. At this point one of the patrons hearing the interchange next to me started to tell everyone that I was a cheapskate trying to score a free meal - & she kept repeating this to everyone at the bar. After this the female bartender behind the bar, B., stepped in and very kindly, with an apologetic tone, took my name and number & said she would have the owner call me & make it right. We’ve not spoken yet. At this bar/restaurant not only is the customer not right, but can be called a liar, yelled at and demeaned by the manager while being called names by the patrons at the bar who had nothing to do with our interaction. The reason for this 1 star is because of an incident that I was involved in with one of the bartenders.

This incident happened on Saturday November 2nd 2024 at approximately 11pm during Halloween party.

What happened was when I finished ordering my drinks I want to close out my card and when I got my receipt I did put $0 on the tip part of the receipt because I didn't have any extra money to tip.

The next thing that happened is I went to go back to the dance floor when I realized that I accidentally had left my prop $100 at the bar for my costume so I was going to going back to pick it up then that was when the bartender had a personal problem and a violent body language by threatening me to throw me out the bar when he lashed out at me in a unprofessional matter which made me felt intimidating and which that can push me or other costumers away especially if that bartender were to act that way towards someone else over something that can be easily solved with solutions.

The worse is that the owner of the venue is not doing anything about it. I called and emailed but looks like an avoid. There's no way that people can have a convo by getting the other side of the story to come up...

This place rocks! The service, staff, and atmosphere were all perfect.

My wife and I hosted our wedding after party at Goodbar over 4th of July weekend. Kenny the manager, was incredibly responsive and helpful in helping us book the bar and karaoke for the event. They had everything all set by the timethat our guests arrived, and it was absolutely perfect. All of the staff were incredibly attentive and ran both an efficient and fun operation. The bar has a great modern dive feel all the while not being pretentious - something I feel you don't see much of in the more posh Point Loma area. I will definitely be back here again, and I can not recommend this place any higher to host any event or party. Kenny was very helpful as well in recommending food options for us to keep folks fed as well while they were at the partty. Final note: the bouncer Aaron was awesome. I have not been to a bar in a long time with a real local feel where everyone is just happy to be there and ready to have a good time....
