La Jolla Boba — Restaurant in San Diego

Tried La Jolla Boba for the first time and overall had a good experience. The staff members provided quick service while keeping their friendly attitude when they served our drinks. I ordered the Strawberry Matcha and the Strawberry Shortcake Smoothie. The Strawberry Matcha provided a nice drinking experience because its matcha taste stayed delicate as it combined with strawberry flavors. The Strawberry Shortcake Smoothie was also good, creamy and refreshing.

The drinks maintained a consistent quality and the prices were reasonable at $7.50 each for the regular size. The shop was empty during my visit so I experienced complete silence while I relaxed there. A nice perk is that they vouch for parking, which makes stopping by more convenient...

I ordered a matcha drink here and was incredibly disappointed—it didn’t taste like matcha at all. It was basically just sweet milk with a faint green tint. No earthy flavor, no depth, nothing remotely close to what matcha should taste like.

When I asked if I could exchange it for a different drink, the server declined and simply asked if I wanted to add more sweetener... which made no sense, since the problem wasn’t that it wasn’t sweet—it was that it didn’t taste like matcha at all.

Between the lackluster drink and the dismissive service, I won’t be returning. If you're a matcha lover, I’d suggest...

Service was quick and very friendly! Unfortunately the milk tea was terrible :( I ordered a 50% sugar Hokkaido milk tea, but even with the adjustment it was still SUPER sweet, like drinking pure syrup even after mixing up the drink. There was way too much creamer and no tea taste at all, I didn’t see any tea particles at the bottom of the cup.
