I stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel for 5 days and had breakfast at Maryjane's for 3 days out my 5 day stay. The breakfast was great (especially their potatoes and bacon)...however, after eating breakfast there on day 4, I left the restaurant to later return a hour later to drink coffee and do a little computer work, only to be told I could not be seated without ordering food due to the "expected" lunch crowd. I explained that I ate breakfast there a couple of hours earlier and just wanted to sit, drink coffee and work on my laptop for a couple of hours. Being that they have a separated bar area in the resturant and the restaurant and bar were not full in addition to my eatting there earlier, I assumed it would not be a problem. However, the hostess denied me the opportunity to be seated but after I wasn't easily turned away and continued with questions, the hostess decided to ask the manager to speak with me. The manager, Lily Jones, came over and preceded to give a similar explanation, which was starting to sound a lot like discrimination, being that they could not give me a solid justifiable reason as to why they could not seat me, even if only for an purchased cup of coffee or tea. After going back and forth about the issue with the manager, Lily, she finally decided that it would be ok for me to sit at the bar and work and order coffee. Although, the bartender who attended to me, was extremely kind, attentive and provided amazing customer service, the previous interaction with the hostess and manager made my experience after being seated uncomfortable to the point to where I left shortly after I was seated. With thst being said, I will not return...
Read moreFirst up - the atmosphere was great, being in the HRC Hotel. Because of that it was also expensive as one might expect. The service was absolutely wonderful for the one time I ate here.
Second - The food was okay, for the prices, I would expect more... specifically a chef that understood how to cook eggs. I got a simple breakfast of bacon, eggs and potatoes. The potatoes came out as a hockey puck... it was interesting but good. The bacon came out super crispy, like peanut brittle crispy. I do not necessarily like chewy bacon, but it shouldn't crumble when I chomp down on the bacon. The eggs... that is where the main problem lies. I ordered my eggs, Over-Medium. You have hard, which is basically solidified yolk, then you have Over-Easy which is runny yoke caked inside a flipped over fried egg. Then you have Over-medium which is a couple minutes longer on the grill and the yoke comes out more like a jello consistency. So you can eat the yoke without it running all over the place. IF the cook did not know how to do that, he should have mentioned it and I would have just asked for scrambled eggs.
Third - My 4 day stay here... Mary Jane's is opened (supposedly) til like 8pm nightly... but every night when I got in they were closed. As early as 3pm they were closed and given that as expensive as they were, they were one of the less expensive restaurants...
Read moreWhile taking lunch from working at Comic-Con we crossed the street to eat at the themed SyFy Cafe. Open tables were everywhere, yet we were forced to wait 10 minutes of out of our lunch time to get a table out on the patio with no shade.
It took another 10 minutes for the waitress (Abbott the Rabbit) to come acknowledge us, so we informed her we were in a hurry and ordered food with our drinks.
When the food came it was pretty much correct, I had ordered well done and it was medium-well, but I can deal with that. we were sharing the $19 bacon cheeseburger. We asked for BBQ sauce for the burger and some ranch for the fries. We were in a hurry to get back to work and know the mess crossing the street so we started eating... we saw our waitress casually attending to other tables for several minutes and we were almost finished when another server finally brought out the BBQ and Ranch. I never even had the opportunity to try the BBQ on my burger before finishing it...
When the bill came the charges were...
$19 Cardioburger $2 Split Plate $1 BBQ Sauce $.50 Ranch $1.97 Tax
Total $24.47 for a burger and fries.... so grand total with tax and tip... $24.47 as I didn't have time to argue with the waitress over these charges I simply let her pay for them with her deserved gratuity.
Easily the most expensive yet mediocre burger I...
