My wife and I attend this place every few months for our big, we want to hurt today, sushi fix. She likes the variety of cooked items and rolls and I like that I can get a TON of Nigiri for a flat all-you-can-eat rate.
My wife tends to start with the baked muscles, which are always delicious. We followed up with some Miso Soup and a cucumber salad. I must say the cucumber salad here is one of my favorite cucumber salads at a sushi spot, the perfect balance of sweet and tangy. From there, we went down our own paths. My wife with the rolls, me with the Nigiri.
Overall we ordered: Miso Soups, Baked Muscles, Spicy Garlic Edamame, Cucumber Salad, Popcorn Zarigani, Lemon Roll, Yellowtail Nigiri, Tuna Nigiri, Cajun Tuna Nigiri, Clam Nigiri, Salmon Nigiri, and a Spicy Tuna Handroll.
The Zarigani is my wife's personal favorite, with the delicious sauces and tempura crawfish on top. It's like having a delicious crunchy party. I always love the Yellowtail Nigiri, its smooth like butter and heavenly.
Everything tasted very fresh, and although the portions don't feel like the biggest (except the Popcorn Zarigani, that things huge), it feels worth it for $25. This was also one of the best trips I have had when it comes to service. Our server was professional and attentive, he was at our table regularly and ready to give us more water/food/ginger/wasabi, whatever we might need.
I feel like this place is the epitome of 4.5 Stars. If I could give it 4.5 stars I would. It's not 5 star level Sushi, but it also doesn't feel like it deserves less...
Read moreQuite nice. Very friendly and caring service - a real pleasure (thanks!). Tasty sushi on an all-you-can-eat deal for $24 with tax. The deal allows you to choose from pretty much anything on the entire menu, including appetizers and tempura - so lots of freedom to experiment and satisfy different interests. Numerous creative options are available: some spicy and bursting with bold flavors, others mild and delicate - all the traditional favorites and specialty options too. The rice in my rolls was just a touch dry, but not distracting as such, so maybe that will improve on another visit. The real bonus, however, was that rolls were quick to reach the table - typically about 5 minutes or so from time of order (much appreciated). For a lunch-break endeavor on on a work day, speed is going to be an important issue, especially for AYCE value. Lunchtime (at 12:30pm on a Tuesday) remained steady at about 30-40% capacity, and they maintained these service speeds throughout my time there. Inside it is dimly lit and refreshingly cool (I love that, but some might be chilled - so, bring a light sweater or something if you chill easily) - otherwise no discomfort here, even when drinking hot tea and eating spicy rolls. Booths were also comfortably spacious. Kudos. Rolls are somewhat small, but I thought this was a good thing for AYCE - since it gives you better opportunity to try more things. Overall, for my first visit, I was pleasantly impressed. I look forward to a return visit...
Read moreI went for dinner on a Friday evening, so I wasn't upset that it took a minute to be seated. They didn't really offer to explain the menu to me, but what part of "all you can eat sushi" needs further explanation. Ok, there is one stipulation: clean your plate. Trust me, it won't be hard. I'm a small guy, so all I could eat were two full sized rolls but it was so worth it. The Poway is a specialty roll with soft shelled crab and burdock root, topped with seared salmon and roe, I enjoyed it. But the reason I have to write this review is the "Motown Philly," a variation on the classic Philadelphia roll. I have to say, this dish was just as culinarily revelatory to my sense of american sushi as was the Philadelphia roll the first time I had that. It is the state fair version of its predecessor, thats right, it is deep fried. My chef, Daniel, topped it the way he liked it and I agree it was perfect. I've uploaded a picture as reference. You should go, you should eat too much, and you should feel awesome about it. For $30 all told, this was one of the best american sushi experiences I have ever had, especially for just...
