HORRIBLE SERVICE - BAD QUALITY - SMALL PORTIONS
I wish there was an option for NO STARS. I JUST sent my three kids in to pick up food at El Charro. First we went online to look at the menu. This is the ONLY Mexican restaurant that we had not tried in town. NEVER AGAIN.
Tamale and Cheese Enchilada plate online $6.25 receipt - $9.25 Beef Flying Saucer online $5.45 receipt - $6.95 California Burrito online $5.95 receipt - $7.45
When my kids walked back home and showed me the receipt, I called and asked the owner/manager why the price difference? He explained to me that I HAVE THE WRONG MENU. That the menu I was looking at online was from 2004 and that he had changed the prices in January because of the economy (I would also like to mention that I know several of the business owners in this district, on this street, and everyone is having a good year btw) I explained that the prices reflected online were the same as the prices at all the other taco shops in La Jolla. He simply replied that it was MY CHOICE TO GO TO THE OTHER TACO SHOPS OR TO COME TO HIS!!! I promptly hung up and wrote this review immediately.
My kids also mentioned that the lady helping them there was rude.
I have lived in this community more than 20 years. I will NEVER step foot in this dump again. EVER. The portions are tiny, and the quality is terrible. I will recommend that if you are looking for Mexican food in La Jolla go ANYWHERE else. There is Los Dos on La Jolla Boulevard, Rigobertos on La Jolla Boulevard, The Taco Stand on Pearl Street, Jose's Cantina on Prospect, or, El RAnchero on La Jolla Boulevard (more of a sit down restaurant with a Cantina) as well. You undoubtedly will be treated better, and will receive much better quality and portions from ANY of these places.
Even if you are down in the Shores...it will be well worth your time to make a short drive to any other one of these Mexican restaurants.
I will make sure that I advise anyone I know that this place is AWFUL, and remind them that it is "their choice to go to any other taco...
Read moreLet me just say, worst service ever! I never write reviews on restaurant or anything I do, however, my experience here was not good at all. To start, the lady at the counter didn’t greet us when we entered. I ordered carne asada nachos and my friend order carne asada fries. The lady repeated the order back to us, we then said, “yes, that’s correct”. Once we got our food, I noticed that she gave us both carne asada fries. I go back into the restaurant and there was a customer ordering his food. She noticed me waiting by the door inside the restaurant, but never asked me to come fourth. Once the guy that was ordering his food was done, he stood there waiting for his food and they were conversing. I then approach the counter and say, “Excuse me ma’am” she ignored me, didn’t look my direction and proceeded to smile in the guys’ face. Then she turns around and then hand him his food and he exists. She looks at me finally and says, “what do you want?” I said, “I ordered carne asada nachos and I got carne asada fries”. She then literally tells me, “ No you did not, you both ordered the fries”. I tell her, “no I know what I ordered, it was nachos and he ordered the fries”. She says to me then, “ok, so what you want?”, I retold her my order. My friend was standing outside and he must’ve heard us so he came back into the restaurant and starts asking “what’s going on”. I tell him and she says again “ no you did not”. So I then told her, “I know what the hell I ordered”. She says, “ok wait outside”. I said to her “no, you didn’t have this last customer wait outside so we do we have to”. Then I tell her, “you know what I don’t want”. I was very upset, I was so hungry after walking around the beach all day and I just could not believe this was the type of service I was going to deal with. I will...
Read moreShould have written this review a lot sooner but the experience was so bad that it popped into my head. Possibly the worst service that I have ever come across. The "lady" if you can even call her that was cold and rude to my girlfriend and I from the start. She said they were closed when there was still plenty of time before closing but then decided to take our order albeit with attitude. When she found out that my girlfriend could speak Spanish she suddenly became nicer. When my girlfriend got her enchiladas she found an extremely long and thick piece of hair that she felt when she took a bite. Also, I have had burritos from many different places in SD and I can say without a doubt that it is trash in comparison to others you can get for a lower price. I feel horrible for the guy that made our food because you can tell he is a nice man based on the way he acts which is in stark contrast to the "lady." This still does not excuse the fact that a long and thick piece of hair is part of their recipe. I will never waste a cent...
