After a long day at work, I went to Spices Thai Cafe to grab some chicken yellow curry. Obviously, because of COVID, they only do to-go/pick up orders. They told me that it would take at least 30 min - 35min to have my food ready and asked if I was okay with that. I didn't mind waiting that long, so I told them it was okay and sat near the tree at the front. While I was waiting, one of the staff came out to the front, was heading my way with a drink. I thought she was going to hand it to someone behind me but there was no one behind me. She told me that because I was going to wait awhile, they wanted to offer me a free milk tea drink. Totally unexpected and It was really nice of them. Got the free drink and eventually I got my chicken yellow curry. I felt like my food was ready less than 30 min but who cares! I got my food! It was worth the wait and I will definitely go back there. Friendly staff, good food, and excellent service. I will...
Read moreService is unacceptable. Food is just OK. Prices are average. We spent $300 for a very large "to go" order and they dropped the ball. I called multiple times to ask for the manager but I did not get a call back until I got lucky enough for the "right" person to be there. Please excuse any spelling, but I was told the manager's name is Yo (she refused to provide the spelling of her name). She does not have a good grasp of customer service and made no effort whatsoever to make it right.
WARNING TO ALL: On a separate visit, the server added gratuity (granted, it was a group of 8) and did not mention anything to us when she provided the bill. I do not love automatic gratuity (and almost always tip more than the automatic amount would be) but not mentioning it is not cool. It showed as "SC" on the check. We fortunately caught it.
WARNING TO VEGANS: They do not understand what vegan means as the server asked if we wanted egg...
Read moreOrdered take out while visiting Del Mar . Being very particular with Asian foods , I tend to order dishes that can’t be messed up too bad at places I know little about . I ordered Thai fried rice with chicken ( Spice level 5) and chicken satay . First look I was impressed with the portion size . It was still not cheap for plain chicken fried rice ( 13.95) but I get it it’s California and it’s California price. The fried rice was probably one of the worst I’ve had . It was very bland and on top of it , the rice wasn’t even fried / mixed right !! There were literally a good chunk of plain white rice in it and overall the rice wasn’t cooked all the way - like hard half cooked rice grain . It was a waste of my money . The satays were decent .. but for 12.00 for 6 skewers I expected better quality . I gave two stars maybe it was a one-off incidence but I sure won’t be trying...
