Short version: Best thai food I've ever had. Try the garlic shrimp if you like either of those things spicy fried rice is bomb and Yakitori is the freshest flavor you'll ever experience. Long version: I have had Thai food from small family run restraints like this from upstate NewYork to Newport, Rhode Island to Charleston, SC and most recently Texas. All have been great this is hands down the best Thai food I have had in my life! Without a doubt if your in San Diego for a day or a decade you are doing yourself a disservice by not trying this food. Don't ask just go, then order the first thing on the menu or your all time favorite and I promise you, you'll have found a new favorite Thai restaurant. UPDATE: food is better than ever still coming back 3 years later anytime I visit San Diego.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 What a hidden gem! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted like old friends. The owner is incredibly kind and thoughtful—she even recommended swapping shrimp for salmon in my seafood fried rice since I don’t eat shrimp, and let me tell you… game changer! I never would’ve thought of that combo, and it was absolutely delicious. The food was fresh, flavorful, and generously portioned for the price. The atmosphere is warm and cozy, and the service made us feel right at home. The owner checked in on us during the meal and had a lovely conversation with us. It truly felt like we were visiting family. If you’re looking for authentic Thai food with heart and hospitality, this is your spot. Can’t wait to come back! 💛

I ordered the hot basil with chicken, basil, broccoli, and mushroom. And I also ordered the drunken noodles without onions. The hot basil dish was excellent and came with rice. I’m from the east coast and it’s rare to find that authentic Thai spice taste out here, so I was thoroughly impressed. The drunken noodles were a little salty for my taste but overall food was excellent. Great if you’re a local or tourist. I sat outside where they have a small dining area. There is also indoor seating. Service was great as they brought my dishes out just how I like. Staff were also helpful and friendly. I was told this place had been there for over 20 years!

August 25th 2017 After work in the evening. I ordered for pick up which is almost a block away from my loft. Spicy Fried Rice Chicken, stir-fried rice with spicy sauce, basil, bell peppers & onions, Yellow Curry Chicken, cooked in a blend of yellow curry, coconut milk sauce & vegetables and Gyoza 7 fried dumplings with sweet & sour sauce. I was offered rice but I prefer to make my own basmati rice with my rice cooker usually before my meal arrives. All was ordered with a spiced level of heat number 7. It only took 15 minutes and paid total $25.71. I prefer my Spicy friend rice to be spicier and more fresh basil and cooked so it's not so sticky. With mor vegetables for a brighter look. My Yellow Curried Chicken I would of liked to taste it a bit more spicier and more heavier taste of curried spices and the coconut sauce more thick then soup like to go well and coat my sides of rice. The Gyoze fried dumplings where perfect and the dipping sauce was amazing! I do understand we are all from different regions and Thailand has different ways all cook there traditional food differently. My ethnicity is half Asian Polynisian and only prefer my Thai food cooked how I noted in this blog. I do compare theirs too San Diego's Thai Time restaurant and that place being one of the top tastes in Thai...

This was my first time at Thai Island. It’s a tiny, cozy place in the Gaslamp Quarter. The ambience is simple and homely. Since the place is small, it isn’t ideal for large groups. That being said, the staff is very friendly and engaging. The service is prompt too. Coming to the food, it was one of the best Thai food I ate in a while. We ordered Thai spring rolls which came with a delicious peanut sauce. The rolls themselves were crunchy and yummy. We also ordered the Spicy Thai Chicken Fried Rice and Thai Yellow Curry. The fried rice was true to its name of being spicy and packed with flavor. The yellow curry was creamy with delicious coconut flavor infused with the chicken and the vegetables, which were perfectly cooked. The servings were in generous portions and a great deal for the price. I am definitely going back to this place to try the rest of the menu! If you are a Thai food fan, I strongly suggest you to check...

Terrible service! I never leave reviews for restaurants but this is an exception. The lady at the register as many have said here is extremely rude. I tried getting food there two Wednesdays in a row and they make it impossible to get some sushi. The first time I tried to order she looked at me like why didn’t I know that they didn’t have fish yet and that they didn’t serve sushi till after 1 pm, how am I supposed to know that? Then I tried the following week even called ahead and when I get there she rudely says it’s not ready yet and when it finally is and I try to pay she just goes, “I don’t take tap” because I wanted to pay with Apple Pay. How in 2024 and in downtown San Diego you don’t take tap. So she tells me to just look for another credit card so don’t get my food again. It is safe to say I’m never going back and I’m telling everyone around me to avoid that place at all cost. Very...
