I had high expectations for this restaurant because of the reviews i've seen on google, yelp and open table. However, i think Tidal is paying for reviews? because all the hype i've read did not happen for me during my experience tonight.
We checked in to the resort at 8pm after a 6 hour drive from up north near bakersfield and were really hungry. Our dinner reservation was set at 8:30, so we quickly settled in to our room and made our way to the restaurant. Our host promptly sat us at our table, which was great. But this was when things turned sour. We were waiting and waiting for a server to to greet us and take our drink order. We watched many other servers walked by us and served other tables. After 15 minutes had past, we finally decided to flag one of those servers down to say we were ready to place our order. The server we flagged down told us " Let me find your server". Another 5 minutes past (we still didn't have drinks or even water at this point) a server girl comes to us and the first thing she says was " Oh , I'm sorry" . She doesnt even say her name .
We order the Bone in Dry aged Rib eye ($72) , Roman herb fries ($8), Warm bloomsdale spinach salad, Shrimp Bisque. The Shrimp bisque and Spinach salad were amazing. I ordered the Rib eye medium rare and when it came it was anything but. It was way more on the rare side, and it was COLD!!! The broccoli that came with it was absolute garbage as well. The Ketchup that came with the fries were watery and basically inedible. Store bought ketchup is better than this. It was so bad that we didnt finish the fries which we would have if we had decent ketchup. The rib eye cut of meat was such a bad cut which left me very shocked that it was $72. Lots of fat and tendon that weren't rendered enough basically felt like chewing gum.
We didn't finish the steak nor the fries. After all this, we decided to order another spinach salad because that was the saving grace of the entire meal. However, when we flagged our server down ( we had to flag her down because she doesn't check on us regularly as a server should) to order another spinach salad. She informs us then that the kitchen is already closed. Why didn't this garbage server tell us that the kitchen was going to close soon at the start of our meal or in the middle when we received our entrees? Maybe more server training is needed. Or maybe management needs to hire better servers. who knows. All i know is that the experience i had was anything but 4 stars as the resort claims itself to be. We also felt their hurry to rush us out because they wanted to clear our plates even though we were still working on eating it. The over all vibe was very casual and laid back almost like a college dorm and not a professional restaurant that merits high price tags for their food.
What is hilarious is that we had our dog waiting in our room for us and when we came back we ordered room service. The room service food for our dog was BETTER than the food at this restaurant. It was actually hot food that smelled way better.
Needless to say , i'll never be dining here again and all the good hype reviews about this place is probably paid advertisement. I hope this place shuts down and re opens with better management and staff.

Read moreWe were traveling through California, ending our vacation in San Diego. We booked a room at Paradise Point Resort and decided to reserve a table for Christmas dinner. The advertised menu sounded lovely in addition to their mention of holiday decor for the festive evening. The price was $140 USD per person, which we were fine with, based on their advertised Christmas dinner promotion. What a disappointment. All we can say is "extortion". The salads were subpar and had looked like they had been sitting out for quite a while. The meat station consisted of beef, white fish and ham. The fish apparently wasn't a popular choice as the same piece sat under a warm lamp for the 2 hours we were sat at our table. I was the dummy who chose the fish. It was ice cold. The beef was cold and stringy. The gravy was over salted. The crab and shrimp station, on ice, was decent, but only offered 1 seafood sauce as an accompaniment. The lobster bisque soup, which I was very excited for, was so salty, it was barely edible. There was no table decor. Not a festive flower, not a simple decoration.. nothing. I felt like I was eating in a dimly lit cafeteria. The only saving grace was the mimosa bar. The gentleman not only served drinks for the entire restaurant, he also doubled as a busser, removing dirty dishes from tables. Our actual server came to our table once to bring water. She wasn't to be seen again. Over all, the meal was an absolute let down. We ate at an award winning restaurant in Palm Springs "Copley's", ordered much more food and drinks, for less $$ than what Tidal charged us for a less then mediocre meal. The Tidal restaurant management staff and chefs should be ashamed. There was no attention to detail, no attention to the time food had been sitting out, no concern for the quality of food being served. Such a shame. If you're looking to book a table for a promotional holiday buffet event at Tidal, I would...
Read moreWe visited Tidal with a friend for the first time this week as part of "Restaurant Week" in San Diego. This spot is part of the Paradise Point resort, and is situated in a beautiful location right on the bay. We found plenty of parking that was very close by.
They offer indoor and outdoor seating... we chose the patio because it was a great San Diego evening.. warm breeze included at no extra charge. The patio offers great views of the bay and will accommodate any size party. We only had three in our group, but a table near us sat 10. Our server was very attentive and she made a fantastic wine recommendation... a red blend called "The Barrel".. check it out when you visit.
Because it was restaurant week, they had a few special menu offerings for that in addition to their regular dishes. I chose the Duck Rillettes as my appetizer. It was presented beautifully on a ceder plank. It could be that my inexperience is showing, but I was not expecting it to be served cold. I didn't care for it at all. My wife chose the Rapini and Mushroom flat bread and it was much, much better.
I ordered a Veal Ragu as my main course. It featured fresh made fettuccine pasta and was very nice. I was served a hardy portion and it paired nicely with the wine selection. My wife ordered Sea Bass, and our friend selected the seared albacore. All of us were happy and everything looked stunning.
I seldom order dessert, but the restaurant week menu included it, so what the heck... i chose the Apple Galette, and it did not disappoint. it came with a wonderful creme fraiche gelato that made all the difference.
This is a nice place to take someone to show them that SD ambiance that makes this america's finest city. It's expensive, but you could always spend more! Count on $50-75 per person plus drinks. Check it out next time you have a yen for something a...
