Fanoos — Restaurant in San Francisco

If you’re seeking the best shawarma in SF, you found it! This shawarma is made with care, fairly portioned and the price is very reasonable. I’m very picky with middle eastern food, and have high expectations. I’ve been to most of the Mediterranean places in SF, (often let down) and I can tell you with confidence that Fanoos Grills will impress you, I promise!

Let me tell you what makes this place special:

Unlike many other places where they take shortcuts, sell you old, dry, shawarma, this is the only place I’ve been to that only sells the shawarma they made fresh daily that day! Once it’s out, it’s out. This shows a high level of care, that you can honestly taste it in the product.

The meat is actually seasoned with authentic spices, and it’s not just soaked in salt or fat. The aroma of the food alone will show you this.

In addition to its freshness, the quality of the meat is extremely high. The beef is soft, not greasy, and so satisfying. You won’t feel heavy at all after eating this, which is a good sign.

The owner and staff that work there actually care about the product. This isn’t just your typical, door dash place where there’s no accountability. The owner wants you to provide honest feedback, and actually cares if you like the food. Their presence makes a huge difference.

Their sauces are outstanding and unique, not just the typical store bought stuff. And the rice was fluffy and cooked well.

In short, go out of your way to come here. At this price point you won’t find anything better in SF. They don’t compromise, and this simply results in great food.

I went to this restaurant the other day while my father was buying the special deal box, which cost $26.10 I gave the cashier $50, but only got $16.10 back. I should have received $23.90 When I asked about the missing change, they didn’t give a clear answer. I felt like I was shorted on purpose. Not a good experience.

Update Review: After my initial two-star review, the owner reached out to me directly to address my concerns. I appreciated the gesture and gave him a call to explain what had happened. He listened and offered a complimentary sandwich and treat as a way to make things right, which I thought was a nice touch and showed they care about customer feedback.

That said, the issue of not receiving my change back was never resolved, which was a key part of my original concern. While I do appreciate the follow-up and the effort to provide a goodwill gesture, I believe accountability on all fronts is important.
